JOB SUMMARY

Manages the sales department of the hotel with 266 rooms, 12 conference rooms, and 2 restaurants. Manages the reactive and proactive sales efforts of the hotel. Manages the sales staff on a day-to-day basis to achieve the hotel's sales targets and has overall responsibility for achieving the hotel's booking targets and revenue. Implements the brand's service strategy and related brand initiatives in all aspects of the sales process and focuses on building long-term, value-oriented customer relationships that enable the achievement of the hotel's sales goals. Evaluates the hotel's participation in the various sales channels (e.g. Area Sales, Group Sales within the Sales Office, electronic lead channels, etc.) and develops strong customer relationships to proactively position and market the hotel. Manages the sales budget to enable the development of hotel specific campaigns to drive revenue and achieve hotel objectives. Develops and implements products and services deliverables to meet or exceed the needs and expectations of the brand's target customer profile and hotel associates, ensuring a return on investment for the owner and Marriott International.

CORE ACTIVITIES

Management of sales activities

  • Manages the reactive and proactive sales activities of the hotel.

  • Determines and develops sales activities in collaboration with regional sales communications.

  • Provides customer input in analyzing market and economic trends that may lead to changes in sales strategy to meet or exceed customer expectations.

  • Reviews Strategic Alignment Review (STAR) report, competitor purchasing reports and utilizes other resources to understand the hotel's market position.

  • Researches competitor sales team strategies to identify opportunities to increase occupancy, RevPAR and market share.

  • Attends Sales Strategy Meeting to provide input on weekly and overall sales strategy.

  • Proposes innovative sales ideas and develops strategies to further increase market share. Evaluates and supports customer participation and engagement with Area Sales and Group Sales within the Sales Office.

  • Serves as a point of contact for the General Manager, Hotel Leadership Team, Group Sales and Area Sales Managers.

  • Serves as a contact for customers; acts as an advocate for customers.

  • Serves as the hotel's authority on sales processes and sales contracts.

  • Acts as the hotel's sales liaison to Area Sales, Group Sales, Revenue Management, Event Management, Regional Sales Communications and other hotel departments as appropriate.

  • Participates in sales meetings with members of the sales team to solicit new business and/or close deals.

  • Identifies public relations opportunities and coordinates activities to enhance the overall sales communications strategy.

  • Executes Marriott customer service standards and hotel brand standards.

  • Leads the operational aspects of customer inquiries (e.g., preparing proposals, drafting contracts, customer correspondence).

  • Ensures a seamless transition from sales to operations and back to sales while providing a consistently high level of service.

  • Oversees the effective resolution of guest issues arising from the sales process by creating mechanisms to escalate issues to management and/or other appropriate stakeholders.

  • Ensures successful service delivery by driving revenue, controlling expenses and achieving a return on investment for the owner and Marriott International.

  • Implements the brand's service strategy and related brand initiatives in all aspects of the sales process and focuses on building long-term, value-oriented customer relationships that enable the achievement of the hotel's sales goals.

  • Interfaces with regional sales communications to execute regional and national promotions.

  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet business needs.

  • Develops strong partnerships with local organizations to increase brand/product awareness.

  • Develops and expands internal relationships with key stakeholders.

  • Develops strong community and public relations by maintaining hotel participation in local, regional and national trade shows and customer events.

  • Executes exemplary customer service to promote customer satisfaction and loyalty by assisting the customer and monitoring their satisfaction prior to and during their program/event.

  • Serves the customer by understanding their needs and recommending the appropriate services that best meet needs and exceed expectations.

  • Builds loyalty to Marriott.

  • Gains an understanding of the hotel's primary target audience and service expectations; serves the customer by understanding their business, business issues and concerns to provide better business solutions both before and during the program/event.

Leadership Skills

  • Manages the hotel's sales department.

  • Develops sales objectives and strategies and verifies alignment with the brand's business strategy.

  • Executes the sales strategy to achieve individual booking targets for self and staff.

  • Advises revenue generating department heads in developing effective revenue strategies and setting aggressive goals that drive the hotel's financial performance.

  • Ensures that the sales team understands Marriott International (MI) demand tools and fully utilizes their potential.

  • Collaborates with Human Resources to attract, develop and retain the right people to support the strategic priorities of the market.

  • Creates effective structures, processes, workplaces and performance management systems.

  • Sets goals and expectations for direct reports using the Leadership Performance Process (LPP), aligns performance and rewards, addresses performance issues and holds employees accountable for successful results.

  • Forecasts talent needs and manages talent acquisition strategy in conjunction with HR to minimize attrition.

  • Maintains an active list of top competitive sales people and works with HR to execute a recruiting and acquisition plan.

  • Supports tools and training resources to educate sales associates on successful catering solutions.

  • Champions leadership development and workforce planning priorities by evaluating, selecting, retaining and developing diverse, high caliber talent that can lead the business today and strengthen the leadership team for the future; continues to improve sales talent; partners with HR to anticipate future talent needs based on business growth plans.

  • Identifies, trains and mentors the sales team; utilizes all available tools to train employees on the job.

  • Shares functional knowledge and develops the sales skills of other functional managers.

  • Leads the sales team in day-to-day operations to achieve the hotel's sales goals and has overall responsibility for achieving the hotel's booking goals and revenue.
