Title: Assistant Professor (Special Education) Employee Classification: FA - Faculty 16 and 24 Pay Pay Grade: FA 01 Division: Academic and Student Affairs Subdivision: Spec Ed and Comm Sci and Disorders Department: College of Education Campus Location: Main Campus General Summary The Department of Special Education & Communication Sciences and Disorders, College of Education at Eastern Michigan University is seeking applicants for one tenure track position in Special Education. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor with a start in Fall, 2025. The Special Education Program within the Department of Special Education & Communication Sciences and Disorders offers a wide range of undergraduate categorical special education degrees leading to initial state licensure in one or more categories. The program also offers a range of certificate, master's, and specialist programs. Principal Duties and Responsibilities • Teach in two or more areas of the department programs/majors • Provide academic and scholarly research advising to students • Engage in research and scholarly activities appropriate to an R2 institution • Provide service to department, college, and university committees, and impact local and global communities • Create and co-construct transformative curriculum and enact pedagogy to reflect and support inclusive excellence • Meet all contractual obligations for tenure-track faculty Minimum Qualifications: • Doctoral degree in Special Education or related field, completed by date of appointment from an accredited institution. • Prior special education teaching experience in a P-12 school. • Demonstrated commitment to and achievement in diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in higher education settings • An emergent/active community-engaged scholarly agenda and accomplishments related to the appointment • Experience in and/or knowledge about preparing special education teachers in culturally-responsive and -sustaining pedagogy • Experience and versatility in inclusive pedagogy.
