Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Robotic Program Supervisor is responsible for collaborating with the surgeons and the operative team to meet the needs of robotic surgical patients. Collaboration with the scheduling department, surgeons, and robotic representatives to maximize utilization is imperative. This role will be an essential piece to education within our community regarding robotic services and is responsible for maintaining inventory, supplies, instruments, logs, and data associated with robotic procedures. Works in surgery, other patient care areas, and office setting as needed to complete tasks.

Essential Job Functions

  • Supervises and trains team in Robotics program and is a subject matter expert in robotic procedures, and is responsible for training and continuing education of team members; will work with the Perioperative Educator to establish an orientation program and to maintain yearly staff educational competency.

  • Demonstrates leadership and team building skills, have the ability to recruit, develop and retain staff for the robotic team.

  • Works with scheduling, surgeons, to maximize use of the Robot time.

  • Understands capability and limitations of daily utilization of robot based on available inventory, staffing, anesthesia, and sterile processing.

  • Prepares, updates, and maintains accurate preference cards for surgeons and staff members.

  • Uses critical thinking skills to troubleshoot all aspects of the robotic system.

  • Manages and coordinates routine preventative maintenance on the robotic system.

  • Functions clinically by assisting staff members set up, operate and care for robotic surgeries.

  • Functions as circulator, scrub, and first assist (if applicable) for robotic procedures when required.

  • Supervises the preparation and positioning of surgical patients to ensure their safety during procedures.

  • Effectively serves as a resource person to ensure a safe, efficient environment for staff, patients, and physicians. Acts as a liaison to enhance quality, throughput and physician engagement. Supports surgeons and staff members in accordance with hospital guidelines to obtain training, credentialing, and to complete yearly competency.

  • Creates and monitors robotic business metrics including turnover times, intraoperative costs, ancillary costs, along with other pertinent data collection and management. Actively taking steps to improve overall efficiency.

  • Provides education and demonstrations to surgeons and within the community when applicable.

  • Assists in development of clinical pathways for robotic patients to encompass all pre-, intra-, and post-operative sites and staffing.

  • Maintains and updates OR Policies related to robotic surgery.

  • Participates in continuing education programs to expand knowledge of robotic surgery, policies, procedures, best practice standards, and advancements.

Licensing/Certification

Basic Life Support (BLS) (required)

Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), Registered Nurse (RN), Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA), Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA), Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) (required)

Education

Associate's Degree in a Healthcare related field (preferred)

Bachelor's degree in a Healthcare related field (preferred)

Work Experience

5 years of experience in interoperative robotic procedures(required)

1 year of leadership experience (preferred)
