BAE Systems Tooling Operations Manager in York, Pennsylvania

Our Combat Mission Systems business is currently looking for a Tooling Operations Manager that is dedicated to enhancing manufacturing processes through the development of tooling and rising to the challenge to deliver products that help protect the lives of those who serve.

As a Tooling Operations Manager, you will:

  • Plan, organize, staff and direct tool room activities, including machining and welding operations.

  • Manage tool room employees (tool makers, machinists and specialty welders).

  • Assess and apply measures, methods and techniques designed to improve safety, product, quality and efficiency.

  • Coordinate with appropriate personnel regarding safety, quality assurance, scheduling, facilities, environmental management, and labor/material/overhead costs to optimize return on assets.

  • Select, train and develop tool room employees.

  • Plan daily and weekly overtime as required to support aggressive production schedules.

  • Evaluate condition of machining equipment. Work closely with maintenance personnel to ensure machines are serviced and operational. Assist with selecting and purchasing new equipment as required.

  • Review drawings, determine optimal manufacturing processes and order material.

  • Maintain a safe work environment and ensure compliance with safety objectives and policies. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations.

  • Work closely with tooling and manufacturing engineers to identify and mitigate production risks.

  • The position requires administration of a collective bargaining contract. Job duties includes 75% factory environment interfacing with direct labor personnel and 25% office environment performing administrative duties.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Experience working in a machine shop environment as a machinist or tool maker.

  • General understanding of welding processes and techniques.

  • Ability to train employees on operating standard tool room equipment (milling machines, lathes, surface grinders, etc.).

  • Must be able to plan, coordinate and lead others in accomplishing work activities.

  • Ability to prioritize work to support production needs.

  • Knowledgeable in blueprint reading and interpretation.

  • Ability to identify, define, interpret and develop new and creative solutions to solve complex problems.

  • Experience establishing performance standards for bargaining unit employees.

  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels.

  • Ability, confidence and self-motivation to apply talents independently and with good judgment.

  • Efficient with Microsoft programs, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Demonstrate effective time management and ability to work within budgetary expectations.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Associate s or Bachelor s degree in a business, management or engineering-related discipline.

  • Experience supervising machine shop employees.

  • Certified machinist or tool maker.

  • Familiarity with both manual and CNC equipment.

  • Experience with tooling and fixture design.

  • Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $87700 - $149100

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
