WellSpan Health Licensed Practical Nurse - North 3A Medical/Surgical & Observation Unit - in York, Pennsylvania

Part Time; 48 hours/ 2 weeks


Weekend and holiday rotation

North 3A: is a 39-bed medical telemetry and observation unit that specializes in the care of patients 18 years and older with a variety of medical diagnoses that include metabolic disorders, stable cardiovascular problems, renal patients, GI bleeds, substance abuse withdrawal, diabetes, infectious diseases, respiratory conditions, rule-out stroke/TIA, and uncomplicated appendectomies and cholecystectomies.

Job Description

Under the supervision of a registered professional nurse, provides nursing care to patients at an advanced level of practice. Takes patient vital signs, assists with procedures/examinations, administers medications, assists patient with activities of daily living (bathing, feeding, etc.) and instructs patients and their families in appropriate care.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under appropriate supervision, administers and controls narcotics and medications.

  • Provides general nursing care and personal care assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing, eating, changing bed linens and bed pans and positioning.

  • Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.

  • Helps patients get into and out of chairs, lifts patients, raises patients in beds, and turns the patients.

  • Checks patient's vital signs.

  • Charts results of various tests.

  • Monitors medical condition of patients and reports changes to appropriate personnel.

  • Prepares patients for scheduled procedures to assist in patient assessment.

  • Assists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care.

  • Arranges for patients' ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services.

  • Provides health care instruction/education to patient and family members.

  • Ensures accurate maintenance of patients' medical records and that patient records are treated as confidential information.

  • Performs a variety of nursing administrative duties.

  • Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.


  • Minimum Experience:

  • Will consider new LPN graduates

  • Minimum Education:

  • Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training

  • Required Certification:

  • Current LPN license in PA; BCLS/ACLS/PALS certification, as required; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

  • Required Courses:

  • Completion of accredited LPN program; rhythm recognition course per unit of assignment
