Richmond Community Services Maintenance Mechanic 2 FT in Yonkers, New York

Richmond Community Services, a nonprofit provider of homes and support services for Westchester County's differently-abled community members, is currently seeking an experiences Maintenance Mechanic to cover our group home locations and administrative offices throughout Westchester.


Responsible for providing maintenance services in all areas of Richmond's buildings and grounds as well as the community residences. Services include but are not limited to plumbing, electrical, heating, air conditioning, boiler maintenance, carpentry and general repairs. The maintenance person is further required to provide transportation services for the agency and responds as part of the Emergency Response team.


  1. Available to respond to maintenance related emergencies 24 hours a day, seven (7) days a week, and is expected to stay at the site until the emergency is resolved.

    1. Responsible for taking work orders from his/her supervisor to independently perform necessary plumbing carpentry or electrical repairs throughout the building, including but not limited to the following items:

    Installation of copper tubing for plumbing connections to equipment, installation of water, waste and vent connections, installation of plumbing fixtures and faucets, electrical circuits and connections required for installation of electrical switches, outlets, fixtures, etc. utilization of testing equipment, installation of new electrical circuits and other devices.

    These functions also include climbing/descending stairs throughout the facility, climbing and balancing on a ladder and reaching using full extension of arms and legs. This may include exposure to excessive heat, cold, malodorous conditions, dust, electrical hazards, slippery situations, dirt, grease, etc. in effecting maintenance repairs.

  2. Responsible for reading a check list of daily and weekly rounds of activities to ensure careful review of boilers, compressors, pumps, meters, air conditioning and heating units. In the process of completing rounds, he/she also notes other areas of general maintenance requirements and writes same to Maintenance Supervisor to be assigned through work orders. The performance of these duties may require him/her to lift and carry objects weighing up to 60 lbs.

  3. Reads and interprets mechanical blueprints and schematic diagrams.

  4. Writes lists of necessary supplies and equipment required. Submits request to supervisor and must be able to utilize and judge equipment needed to complete job and make such….

    1. Reports to the Maintenance Supervisor conditions which may endanger the safety or welfare of any and all persons at the facility. In the absence of the Maintenance Supervisor, he/she takes the necessary corrective action, documents the condition, and action taken.
  5. Able to perform rounds to ensure physical plant meets state life safety requirements.

  6. Responsible for adding chemicals to boiler, maintaining appropriate water and oil levels, monitoring valve leaks and general cleanliness of boiler rooms surfaces, keeping it free of combustible materials, dirt and debris by observing gauges and dials, and testing and ensuring the operation of generators at all sites.

  7. Responsible for all general upkeep of agency's vehicles and writes entries in the journal reflecting the daily activity of each vehicle.

  8. Drives the agency's vehicles. Participates in Driver Training and authorization process.

Must have a NY/NJ or CT Driver License in good standing to be considered for this role.

Salary: $19.38 to $21.83/hour and based on experience
