Virginia Mason Memorial Ultrasound Technologist in Yakima, Washington

This position qualifies for a $10,000 sign on bonus!

Actual pay rate will be calculated based on relevant years of experience and education/certification requirements.

ROLE SUMMARY

Under the broad direction of the Radiologist, the Ultrasound Technologist performs ultrasound examinations of specified anatomy as requested by an authorized, licensed Provider. The Ultrasound Technologist is expected to perform a variety of ultrasound procedures with the knowledge and ability to obtain a diagnostic-quality sonogram on all ages and gender of patients.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs ultrasound procedures (general and vascular) and invasive procedures per established protocols (i.e. biopsies, paracentesis, thoracentesis, FNA, etc.).

  • Measure, calculates and selects proper technical factors in order to obtain diagnostic exam.

  • Interprets data gathered in assessment and provides care appropriate to age related needs.

  • Obtains patient medical history and clinical data for correlation with the imaging study, and enters such data into the appropriate database.

  • Positions patients with a high degree of professionalism and safety, while assuring optimal imaging results.

  • Utilizes supportive and immobilization equipment and devices to ensure patient safety and comfort.

  • Upon completion of patient imaging procedure, the technologist reviews the images and associated data in PACS for accuracy and assures all images are available for Radiologist dictation.

  • Completes the procedure in the Radiology Information System (RIS) so that the pertinent patient records are updated (i.e. for documentation, billing, etc.).

  • Understands and follows all safety policies and reports any unsafe conditions or practices to lead technologist/manager.

  • Utilizes the radiologist’s comments (formal and informal) for improvement of their technique and/or acknowledging exemplary work for improved service to patients.

  • Adheres to imaging Quality Control procedures.

  • Utilizes equipment and resources appropriately. Reports equipment problems, malfunctions, and/or need for repairs to lead technologist or supervisor. Maintain cleanliness of equipment for patient safety and/or function.

  • Through attitude and example, demonstrates Virginia Mason Memorial’s expectations for customer service.

  • Maintains a level of responsibility for updating job related knowledge and skills level, including applicable Joint Commission, and industry requirements, in an effort to increase individual skills and quality patient care.

  • Accepts responsibility for working on tasks that better or enhance the department. Communicate appropriately with imaging team to maintain productivity and operational efficiency.

  • Assists in training and instruction of new department personnel and students.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduate of an accredited program of Sonography or Radiologic Technology under the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) required. 12 month externship preferred. Registry eligibility required.

Experience: 2-4 years of ultrasound experience preferred.

Licenses/Certificates/Registration: American Heart Association BLS required. Sonography Principles and Instrumentation (SPI) certification required at time of hire. Certification via the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ADDMS) required within 12 months of hire. Abdomen or OB/GYN registry required within 12 months of hire. Must be able to independently perform all exams and procedures in Ultrasound department.

Additional Requirements: Call required every for Part Time and Full Time staff.
