Fairview Health Services VP Hospital CNO - Lakes in Wyoming, Minnesota

Overview

The Hospital VP/Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is responsible for overseeing nursing practice for designated areas within the Hospital and has ultimate responsibility for meeting quality and patient care needs, to assure interdisciplinary care in accordance with the Fairview mission in partnership with hospital, medical staff, senior executives, Service lines leaders, as well as, shared clinical and support leadership. The CNO ensures the advancement of the profession of Nursing. The CNO is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the delivery of patient care services for the designated Hospital. Promotes and establishes an environment of patient centered care in which standards of excellence and consistent nurse practice are implemented throughout the hospital including inpatient units, Emergency Department, Imaging, Observation, Cath Lab, Operating Room, and hospital based clinic environment to improve the health of the community. As a member of the hospital executive team, the CNO facilitates a highly-matrixed approach in the development of hospital services, and displays an ability to work effectively within the health systems’ decision making and organizational structures. This role will partner across the system to find efficiencies across the system, use our services across the system, get to higher outcomes/lower cost, and move patients to most appropriate care quickly. The role will also include leadership and implementation of Fairview Operating Management System, using lean methodology and practice lean philosophy. The CNO represents patient care in system integration activities and other strategic efforts, which affect/impact patient care. The CNO will approve the nursing practice model and supports its implementation in all settings, assuring that there is a common philosophy of nursing practice, consistency in the standards used to deliver and evaluate nursing care, and that all nurses adhere to common standards of competence across the hospital. The CNO will be responsible for Labor Relations and Negotiations for nursing staff within the hospital.

The CNO will lead the development and implementation of clinical nursing practice model that reflects and drives best practices in health environments and creates an environment to facilitate team actions that produce results. Implements shared decision making councils to lead nursing standardization for evidenced based clinical practice, policies and quality care. The CNO will work closely with Medical Affairs as well as with other inter professional teams. The role will establish strong relationships with nursing leaders and educators from across the system ensure ongoing advancement of professional nursing practices and continuous (ongoing) improvement in clinical outcomes throughout the organization. In addition, this role will partner with Patient Care leaders from across Fairview to enable consistent practices, standards, evaluation and adherence to common standards of competency of nursing care across Fairview’s hospitals and medical centers. Assures adherence to CMS, Joint Commission, and other regulatory bodies affecting clinical practice and quality metrics.

This role provides leadership and ensures progress on clinical excellence and care delivery improvement initiatives. Participates and collaborates with an inter-professional team of leaders, including FMG leadership, senior services leadership, administrative staff and medical staff, to develop quality initiatives, policies and procedures, and budget resource allocation. As part of the senior leadership team, provides nursing and operational leadership in human resource management, quality assurance and improvement, operations performance, team development, planning, budgeting and system performance. Partners with medical staff on development and integration of high quality medical services within the hospital and the broader Fairview integrated care delivery system. Uses position of prominence to increase the level of awareness and commitment toward clinical process and quality improvement within region and throughout the Fairview system. Provides leadership for system initiatives and acts as a liaison to other System Committees, i.e. Credentialing, etc. This role must promote our system by maintaining patients in our system based on excellence of services.

  • As part of senior management team, develops and manages annual operational and capital budgets and strategic planning.

  • Develops, maintains and implements effective financial, strategic and tactical plans for areas of responsibility.

  • Maintains a thorough understanding of the healthcare marketplace. Has thorough understanding of healthcare finances.

  • Actively promotes the provision of quality health care and excellent patient satisfaction.

  • Resolves clinical issues as they arise.

Qualifications

Required

Education

  • Master’s Degree required. If Master’s Degree is not in Nursing, the individual must have a Bachelor’s in Nursing.

Experience

  • 7 to 10 years of healthcare leadership.

License/Certification/Registration

  • Current MN RN license (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire)

Preferred

Education

  • Doctorate of Nursing Practice PhD or DNP

Experience

  • 10 + years of experience years health care leadership

License/Certification/Registration

  • Nurse Executive Advanced Certification (NEA-BC)
