QUALIFICATIONS:As a minimum, an Associates Degree, 48 college credits, or successful completion of the Paraprofessional examination. Such qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

JOBGOAL:To assist the teacher in achieving instructional objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them acquire skill levels commensurate with their abilities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills introduced by the teacher.
- Develops and follows a daily schedule in cooperation with assigned teachers and administrators.
- Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
- Operates and cares for classroom instructional equipment.
- Helps students master instructional materials or the use of equipment assigned by the teacher.
- Assists in formulating and conducting classroom activities. Engages in daily and long term planning of activities with teachers.
- Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work as assigned by the teacher.
- Assists with the supervision of students during assemblies, play periods, field trips and emergency drills.
- Assists with large group activities including drill work, reading aloud, and story telling.
- Reads to students, listens to them read, and participates in other forms of oral and written communication with them.
- Assists in the administration, scoring and recording of diagnostic and achievement tests for individual students as instructed by teachers.
- Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and makeup work as assigned by the teacher.
- Assists students in the classroom, media center, computer lab or other instructional areas.
- Alerts the teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
- Supervises/assists with snack, lunch, cleanup and bus duties as assigned.
- Serves as a source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentially of information about students as is expected of certified teachers.
- Develops and utilizes instructional materials, displays and bulletin boards under the direction of teachers or administrators,
- Moves instructional materials and assists students with physical disabilities, as necessary.
- Participates in in service training programs as assigned..
- Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as assigned. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:As found in the Agreement Between the Kent County Educational Support Personnel Association and The Board of Education of Kent County. This is a ten (10) month position. SALARY LANE: Instructional Assistant Lane 3. Step established by the Superintendent. BARGAINING UNIT: Kent County Educational Support Personnel Association. FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
