Job Description

The Biologics Discovery Sciences Group at AbbVie is seeking an accomplished scientist who will make substantial contributions to the conception, execution, and communication of antibody discovery strategies in a highly collaborative environment. A primary responsibility will be to develop and execute research strategies to enable the discovery and development of therapeutic antibodies for AbbVie’s core therapeutics areas. They will be responsible for the design and execution of in vitro display technologies for lead antibody identification/optimization. In addition, it is expected that the candidate will utilize their expertise to generate internal and external collaborations as necessary to further program goals. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving antibody discovery programs within a multidisciplinary research group in an exciting, fast-paced team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the conception, execution and communication of antibody discovery strategies in a highly collaborative environment.

  • Develop and execute research strategies to enable the discovery and development of therapeutic antibodies and for AbbVie’s core therapeutics areas.

  • Design and execution of in vitro display technologies for lead antibody identification/optimization and collaborating to generate stage-gate appropriate in vitro / cellular / in vivo data packages supporting PoC.

  • Leverage expertise to develop and implement research to gain a detailed mechanistic understanding of the molecular pharmacology of therapeutic molecules.

  • Ensure consistency and quality of technical reports.

  • Provide project update, analysis and advice to cross-functional teams and senior management.

  • Present original work internally across departments and at internal and external scientific conferences.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • PhD, MS, or BS degree in Biochemistry, Biochemical engineering or related disciplines with typically 4+ (PhD), 10+ (MS), or 12+ (BS) years of experience

  • Hands-on experience with in vitro antibody discovery display technologies (e.g., phage, yeast, mammalian)

  • Antibody/antibody fragment library design and construction

  • Strong molecular biology skills

  • Familiarity with sequence analysis tools (Geneious, Sequencher)

  • Experience with flow cytometry

  • Deep understanding of antibody structure and function

  • Experience in antibody engineering and optimization (e.g., humanization, Fc optimization)

  • Ability to explore and develop new approaches to further advance innovative biologics discovery

  • Highly developed leadership and communication skills

  • Keen ability to engage internal and external scientific leaders in collaborative research

  • Excellent organization skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Work in a collaborative environment with functional and therapeutic areas

  • Adapt to rapid changes in project priorities and timelines

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.​

Salary: $103,500 - $197,000
