The Director, EHS Governance, Systems and Standards provides leadership, strategic direction, and oversight for the AbbVie Biologics Campus' (ABC) Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) programs and initiatives in Worcester, MA. The primary goals and objectives of this position are to identify site specific strategies, establish/maintain systems to achieve the identified strategies in order to prevent catastrophic events and minimize injuries/illnesses and to measure performance. Provides various support to the Worcester campus to ensure compliance with internal and regulatory EHS programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Accountability for establishing the strategic direction, monitoring performance and compliance for AbbVie EHS programs/systems. It will develop strategies to minimize liabilities and support business growth for the company, which has approximately 30,000 employees with multiple sites located throughout the world.

  • Identifying strategic direction and providing oversight for facility EHS Programs which include, continuous improvement of EHS culture, Long Range Strategic Plan, benchmarking with external companies, awards/recognition programs, establishing EHS metrics along with development/maintenance of associated tracking systems, reporting metrics to senior management as well as regulatory agencies where required.

  • Managing the site's EHS standard processes which include developing, maintaining, and implementing internal standards across the campus.

  • Managing the site's EHS Auditing process to assess compliance with both internal company standards and regulatory compliance.

  • Providing oversight for the Occupational Health programs which includes, developing/maintaining company standards on medical surveillances, health and wellness programs, participation in establishing occupational exposure limits for AbbVie compounds, providing technical expertise for medical alerts/pandemics/global citizenship, managing the local SOS program, managing the Occupational Health Clinic transitional service agreement (TSA), etc. across the Worcester campus.

  • Developing EHS IT strategies and providing oversight in developing/maintaining IT systems such as Action Management, EHS Training Systems, Envision, etc., as well as managing their respective IT budgets.

  • Managing and providing oversight for Safety programs/initiatives which include emergency preparedness, industrial hygiene, hazardous communication, etc.

  • Managing and providing oversight for Environmental programs/initiatives, which includes, due diligence for acquisitions/divestitures, site remediation programs, product lifecycle, and internal/external environmental partnerships.

  • Managing the EHS training process which includes content development, training program logistics, managing training system, etc. Managing/supporting various Operations local business area specific EHS&E programs such as environmental permitting, interaction with regulatory agencies, emergency response, etc.

  • Managing departmental and capital projects budgets and development of direct EHS staff.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor degree in engineering, environmental science, or industrial safety is required. Master’s degree and/or certifications are desirable, but not required.

  • 15 years’ experience in EHS, and at least 5 years directly managing people required.

  • Experience in working with senior level management is required.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are also required.

  • Position requires extensive EHS&E technical experience.

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.​
