BUILDING OFFICIAL

The Building Official is a non-union, non-classified position responsible for the direct supervision of all employees of the Building Inspection Services Division of the City of Woonsocket. Duties also include the administration and enforcement of all federal, state, and local building codes as well as all other regulations as they pertain to all levels of building construction. Meeting with construction professionals as well as with the Zoning Review Board as needed. A high school diploma or GED equivalent, or college experience as a suitable substitute, with eight (8) years of supervisory experience in general construction. Must possess a

Rhode Island Building Official certification or certification as an eligible Rhode Island Building Official, and if not certified than applicant must be certified as Rhode Island Building Official within three (3) months of the date of appointment

. We are looking for a highly organized individual able to work independently and communicate effectively verbally and in written form to all levels of people. Must be available for emergency call outs.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of Director of Planning and Development, the Building Official serves as the Citys Chief of Building Inspection Services and directly supervises the activities of all members of the Building Inspection Services Division, and does related work as required.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs daily administration and enforcement of all federal, state and local building codes, as well as other regulations involved with building construction of all types.

Direct the enforcement of all federal, state, and local codes pertaining to electrical and plumbing/mechanical work by qualified staff inspectors.

Responsible for the enforcement of state minimum housing code by other staff personnel as well as all other relevant codes pertaining to the City of Woonsockets housing units.
