University of Virginia Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Wise, Virginia

The Department of Business and Economics at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise in Wise, Virginia, invites applications for a full-time (9-month) tenure-track position at the assistant professor level, starting August 2024.

Expectations for this position include teaching 12 credits during the fall and spring semester (24 annually). Courses will consist primarily of entrepreneurship classes, but business classes will be required as needed and determined by the chair of the Department of Business and Economics. The candidate will concentrate on increasing enrollments in the entrepreneurship classes and will be expected to develop activities and events that enhance the entrepreneurship program. Service to the department and to the College will include student advising/mentoring and committee service (faculty are generally appointed to one Faculty Senate Committee and one College committee). This position will oversee the Napoleon Hill Scholarship (NHS) process, which includes promoting the scholarship, managing the application process (collection, organization, and review of applications by the NHS committee), ensuring timely submissions and communication, notifying recipients, and coordinating the award process with the Advancement and Financial Aid offices. Responsibilities also include handling inquiries, monitoring recipients' progress, compliance with NHS conditions, and assessing recipients' educational growth. The person will engage in scholarship appropriate to the discipline that aligns with the expectations of the Department of Business and Economics.

Entrepreneurship courses taught may include, but are not limited to: Foundations of Entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurial Business Models, Entrepreneurial Creativity and Innovation, Entrepreneurial Small Business, and Advanced Topics in Entrepreneurship. Business and leadership courses include, but are not limited to: Napoleon Hill Keys to Success, Foundations of Business, International Business, and Strategic Management.

Education required: Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship, Small Business Management, Management, or a related field. ABDs near completion will be considered but Ph.D. must be earned by time of appointment. Experience in practical applications, such as managing innovation centers or accelerators is a plus. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and scholarly research.
