Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY

The Health Educator is responsible for promoting, maintaining, and improving individual and/or community health by assisting individuals and communities to adopt healthy behaviors that promote healthy living and prevent disease. This position supports communities, community based youth serving organizations and other partners with behavioral health and social determinants of health efforts. This includes collecting and analyzing data to identify health needs, planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating health education designed to encourage healthy lifestyles, policies and environments.

Travel is required for this position.

To be eligible, candidate must reside in one of the following Wisconsin counties:

Ashland, Bayfield, Florence, Forest, Iron, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Oneida, Portage, Price, Sawyer, Taylor, Vilas, Wood.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.

Minimum Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Community Health, Health Education, Wellness, Health Promotion, or a related field.

Preferred/Optional: Master in Community Health Education or Public Health.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum Required: Two years of health education experience. Experience with Microsoft Office products. Strong written and verbal skills.

Preferred/Optional: Five plus years of health education experience. Knowledge of quality improvement and performance management processes.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.

Minimum Required: None

Preferred/Optional: Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).

Additional Job Summary

Successful candidate will:

  • Have knowledge of high-quality youth development programs, including afterschool, out-of-school time (OST), and childcare programs.

  • Work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including schools, community organizations, childcare programs, and government agencies.

  • Collaborate with providers and community partners to assess program needs and identify opportunities to address quality through the development of tools and resources.

  • Assist in the planning and execution of professional development opportunities for OST staff.

  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among OST programs, schools, and other stakeholders.

  • Support the implementation of data collection and evaluation processes to measure the impact of our work.

  • Stay informed about relevant policies, funding opportunities, and best practices in the OST field, including the role of OST in addressing Social Determinants of Health and Youth Mental Health.

  • Provide technical assistance and direct coaching to OST programs, addressing challenges and promoting program quality.

Other Preferred Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in education, social work, human services or a related field.

  • Experience working in OST programs or a related field.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to deliver professional development opportunities and facilitate learning experiences.

  • Knowledge of relevant policies, regulations, and trends in the OST field.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the WOSTA team in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiarity with other relevant software (Constant Contact, Canva or VistaCreate, website support and social media) desired.
