The Propeller Systems Engineering group is seeking a customer focused and dedicated systems engineer with DO178 software familiarity, controls development experience, cybersecurity familiarity, and hydraulic control system modeling expertise (combination of hydraulic, control EMIDs, and control software modeling). The candidate will support throughout the propeller system life cycle as well as support existing propeller integration for new applications. The position requires the ability to communicate internally with engineering and program management as well as externally with US military engineering, operators, maintainers, airframers, and engine manufacturers to develop, test, and support in-service and new propeller systems. The candidate should have experience in the four major disciplines of systems engineering, systems architecture development; modeling; requirements development and management; and verification and validation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform analysis, implementation, and documentation of cyber security requirements for military electronic propeller control system applications including interfacing with internal subject matter experts and the customer.

  • Ensure all tools and processes used in existing programs and future development programs are compliant with the latest cyber security requirements.

  • Generate and maintain propeller system complex performance models and real time models for hardware-in-the-loop testing for new and existing propeller systems.

  • Includes identifying component and system testing and model calibration

  • Analyze component and system stability (phase and gain margins)

  • Simulate proposed system failure modes and proposed product changes

  • Have flexibility to move between architecting, modeling, requirements development, and verification and validation as required by the various phases of assigned programs. This may require domestic and international travel to support suppliers, customers, and aircraft operators.

  • Lead existing product support and new program development for military and commercial propeller platforms. Typical activities include the following:

  • Attend and support customer meetings

  • Identify upgrade opportunities and problem solutions

  • Lead control software and hardware upgrade programs.

  • Execute software and hardware validation including support of software certification

  • Support on-aircraft testing and troubleshooting

  • Lead propeller control and modeling technologies development including coordination with Figeac France engineering counterparts.

  • Maintain and develop a library of effective and modular component models using existing models, simulations, and hardware test data.

  • Identify and perform R+D for adaptive control algorithms and prognostic health monitoring for improved performance and maintenance.

  • Lead development of control algorithms for propeller systems and incorporate into requirements for propeller control software (DO-178 Level A software).

  • Interact with internal customers, external customers (military, powerplant manufacturers, and/or aircraft manufacturers), and suppliers.

  • Participate in internal and external product design engineering teams and reviews.

  • Be involved, either directly or indirectly, with aircraft and propeller system troubleshooting with operators after entry into service.

  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex technical information in presentation and report forms.

  • Some international travel is required to coordinate with the Figeac, France site and for customer support.

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience OR

  • Advance degree and 3 years of relevant experience OR

  • In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required

  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related degree (Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred)

  • Five years systems engineering experience (2 years with Master’s Degree)

  • Aircraft software and control system experience

  • Modeling experience with MATLAB/Simulink

  • Experience with hydraulic (fluid)/mechanical/electronic control systems

  • Ability to model, calibrate, and troubleshoot complex combined hydraulic, electronic, and mechanical systems required (both real time and non-real time)

  • Control system design, testing, and in-service investigations including software preferred

  • Cyber Security familiarity or experience is preferred

  • Experience performing FMECA, SSA, and FHA analyses is a plus

  • Requirements management experience with ARP4754 preferred

  • Full life cycle experience as a systems engineer: systems architecture/ requirements development/ modeling and simulation/ verification and validation.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to present to customers, operators, and levels of leadership internally & externally.

  • Aircraft flight testing experience is a plus

  • Experience with Doors or similar configuration management tools is a plus

  • Experience with diverse international teams is a plus

  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements
