Are you ready to lead a pivotal role in shaping the success of our Digital Controls Applied Mechanics organization?

The applied mechanics senior Engineer will work with the other disciplines of the Integrated Product Team (IPT) including project, mechanical design, and electrical design. Projects include support of cockpit displays, flight controls, air management systems, military avionics as well as a variety of other avionics equipment. Projects worked may be for either helicopters or fixed wing aircraft.

The candidate could work either commercial or military programs, which will be determined based upon candidate qualifications and program needs. Tasks will vary, but may include clean sheet design, delivering development hardware, facilitating the delivery of production hardware, processing engineering changes to the production configuration, and support of fielded engines.

Hybrid: Employees who are working in Hybrid roles will work regularly both onsite and offsite. Ratio of time working onsite will be determined in partnership with your leader.

What You Will Do

  • Resolution of thermal or structural problems of difficult and complex scope, seeking a balanced system solution, ensuring engineering excellence, all with minimal supervisor oversight.

  • Review and approval of product definition data.

  • Generate development hardware designs that meet objectives and facilitate the delivery of the hardware on schedule.

  • Process technically sound engineering changes within schedule that meet performance metrics.

  • Utilize standard work and CORE/ACE tools to continuously improve the design process.

  • Mentor other engineers in process-related and/or technical subjects

  • Have demonstrated problem solving skills and an understanding of engineering principles

  • Direct experience with thermal or structural analysis and electronic packaging

  • Understanding hardware and manufacturing methods

  • Proficiency with thermal and structural analysis tools

  • Understanding of thermodynamics & heat transfer and its application in electronics cooling

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail, deadlines, and reporting.

  • Ability to clearly and concisely communication to all levels of the organization.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a consistent record of collaboration, innovation, and initiative.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience

  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Understanding of thermodynamics & heat transfer and its application in electronics cooling

  • Proficiency with thermal and structural analysis tools

  • Working knowledge of Environmental testing equipment, procedures and qualification activities (e.g. RTCA DO-160 or MIL-STD-810G)

  • An active US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.

  • Familiarity with the design and manufacturing processes of CCAs, metal housings, sheet metal

  • Experience with thermal management for electromechanical designs

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
