Applying adult learning principles, the Multimedia Instructional Designer is responsible for multimedia and video production on a team dedicated to providing training content for on-call employee disaster inspectors. The Multimedia Instructional Designer reports to the Learning and Development Manager.

The Multimedia Instructional Designer must be adaptable to a dynamic schedule, including the potential for evenings, weekends, and occasional overtime, particularly during disaster response situations. Limited travel may be required. The role involves a hybrid work model, which currently includes both in-office days in Winchester, VA and remote work.

Your Impact

Multimedia Production

  • Produce and manage content using Adobe Creative Cloud, including videos, graphics (web and print), eLearning modules, and job aids;

  • Coordinate across departments on multimedia development initiatives;

  • Mentor full-time and part-time Learning & Development staff on video and multimedia production best practices; and

  • Identify, manage and execute new associated technology.

Training Development

  • Write and edit eLearning course content, video scripts, assessments, and other instructional material;

  • Design, develop, and test instructional materials, with a strong focus on overall quality of training content and user experience;

  • Work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure accuracy of the instructional content; and

  • Collaborate with the L&D Manager, department leads, and SMEs to identify training needs.

Training Compliance and Administration

  • Assist in administration of the learning management system (LMS);

  • Provide support to users by identifying and resolving problems relating to the operation/function of software systems;

  • Monitor and update project website and social media accounts;

  • Contribute to website and marketing content;

  • Adhere to and apply Quality Management System and client compliance requirements for inspector training products;

  • Identify opportunities to improve business processes and systems;

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures; and

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Multimedia or Graphic Design, Video Production, Education, Instructional Design or related fields;

  • Minimum two years of applicable experience or at least four years of comparable knowledge, skills and abilities;

  • Proficiency in use of Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Audition, Premiere Pro, After Effects) and Office 365 software;

  • Basic understanding of adult learning principles;

  • Familiarity with web design, HTML5, CSS, Javascript a plus;

  • Creative and self-motivated with strong attention to detail;

  • Demonstrated analytical, collaboration, and multi-tasking skills;

  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with technical and non-technical audiences;

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team under tight timeframes;

  • Ability to operate within available budgets;

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with individuals at all levels in an organization;

  • Portfolio of work to demonstrate proficiencies upon request; and

  • Due to client requirements, US citizen is required for all positions. As a contractor to FEMA, we require all selected candidates to undergo a criminal background investigation and fingerprint analysis. Only candidates who rate favorably may be selected for employment.
