SOUTHERN OHIO EDUCATIONAL SERVICE CENTER Paraprofessional in Wilmington, Ohio

Position: Paraprofessional (Community Room)

Location: Southern Ohio Learning Center | Southern Ohio Educational Service Center

General Description:

Under immediate supervision of the building administrator, the selected candidate will be responsible for creating and implementing engaging lesson plans for a variety of student groups in the Community Room at the Southern Ohio Learning Center.  This role involves facilitating activities that promote community building and social interaction among students.  The Community Room hosts four classes daily, including elementary, middle school, and two high school groups, with each session lasting 45 minutes.

The Paraprofessional will work with students with disabilities and/or typical students in small group or one-on-one situations to provide instruction, assist in the preparation of activities and projects, monitor student activities, use positive guidance techniques, and participate in evaluation team meetings when requested.  This role is ideal for individuals passionate about community building and fostering positive social interactions among students.  Reference the job description linked below for additional information.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lesson Planning and Facilitation - develop and execute lesson plans for daily community room sessions.  Activities may include crafts, card games, board games, playing guitars, basketball, and archery.

  • Activity Management - implement and manage rotating activity stations to ensure a dynamic and engaging environment for all students.

  • Speaker Coordination - collaborate with individuals and groups to schedule guest speakers for Community Room sessions.

  • Therapy Coordination - work with the care coordinator from the partnering mental health agency to schedule and facilitate group therapy sessions once a week.

  • Support Duties - cover breaks for other Paraprofessionals, assist students as needed, and help with lunch and snack duties.

  • Administrative Support - perform additional duties as assigned by the building administrator to support the overall functioning of the school.

Qualifications:

  1. High School diploma, an Associate's degree, or 48 college semester hours, or 72 college quarter hours, or pass the ETS paraprofessional test.

  2. Possess an Ohio State Board of Education Educational Aide License or have the ability to attend the correct licensure.

  3. Training and/or experience which evidences basic knowledge of email and computer applications.

  4. Experience working with children and adolescents in an educational or recreational setting.

  5. Strong organizational and communication skills.

  6. Ability to develop engaging lesson plans and manage multiple activities simultaneously.

  7. Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively with a team.

  8. Basic knowledge of mental health and wellness practices is preferred.

  9. Must have a phone for communication purposes.

  10. Current driver's license and reliable transportation.

  11. Must pass a criminal background check.
