Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate Degree, required. Master's Degree required. Master of Physician Assistant Studies, Master of Nurse Practitioner, or similar degree conferred by an accredited program, such as NCCPA and ARC-PA.

  • Experience: One year of experience working in general or other surgical subspecialty, emergency/inpatient medicine or comparable experience. 3 to 5 years’ experience preferred.

  • Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current NP or PA license in appropriate state, registry required w/state medical board, current DEA registry and ACLS (not required for the in- office only NP/PA) and BLS Required.

  • Additional Skills Required:

  • While limited operating room coverage is necessary, the candidate must be comfortable training for work in the operating room. Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. Proficient in the performance of clinic and bedside general surgery procedures, including but not limited to laceration repair, incision and drainage of large abscesses, punch biopsies, removal of superficial skin lesions is a must. Basic orthopedic trauma procedures are also required including but not limited to fracture/dislocation reduction and casting as well as open fracture management. The candidate must be comfortable working in the operating room, clinic and surgical wards. Thorough skill in obtaining a surgical history and conducting a physical examination is a must. Must be comfortable writing complete daily progress notes, consultation notes, and writing discharge summaries. Communication skills, both verbal and written, general computer knowledge is required; ability to work independently, yet in collaboration with physicians, nurses and care team. Ability to use problem-solving, decision making, and creative thinking skills. Must be able to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing clinical environment. Must participate in call rotation. Rotating day/night shifts may be necessary to accommodate patient care needs and may include in-house night/weekend call coverage.
