Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Position Purpose:

This is an individual position that requires strong technical curiosity across many technologies, a desire for technical leadership, and the ability to learn and share with others. This position provides measurement solutions and support to multiple 24/7 manufacturing facilities in Corning’s Optical Communications business to deliver best in class optical fiber to our customers. Supports drive to fundamental process understanding and lowest cost producer objectives. Promotes the development and execution of plans to evaluate new technology or improvements in existing technology resulting in a better product in terms of quality and/or cost.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's in Optics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related

  • Previous work experience in systems development, optical test equipment and/or manufacturing

  • Knowledge of basic optics, optical systems and electrical systems

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Data retrieval, plotting and analysis

Desired:

  • Knowledge of optical test and measurement techniques and equipment

  • Computer-based measurement or automation equipment setup and support

  • Working knowledge of Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R), Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and Measurement Uncertainty Analysis

  • Experience with optical manufacturing, including assembly process & device testing

  • Working knowledge of Matlab, Minitab, or other mathematical/statistical analysis tools

Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering-level support to optical measurement equipment throughout Optical Fiber and Cable facilities

  • Solve process issues through data analysis, experimentation, and partnership with subject matter experts

  • Provide engineering expertise for fundamental understanding of manufacturing issues and leadership or support for startup of new equipment lines

  • Assure quality and repeatability of processes and products

The range for this position is $89,634.00 - $123,247.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
