Job Description:

Mechanical Engineer Technician III

Primarily in Wilmington, NC. Could have travel to other plants in Midland, Winston Salem, and Hickory. Most likely they will stay in WL for the duration, but we move people around as needed to manage whatever project comes along.

PPE: Corning will provide generic safety glasses, Hard hats, Gloves, Safety vests, etc. Workers will need Safety boots over the ankle (typically 6 inch), but they can expense those up to $150 with receipt in Fieldglass.

AAS Mechanical Engineering Technology, BS Mechanical Engineering Technology, BS Mechanical Engineering (Equivalent work experience may be considered in rare circumstances.) and 3+ years" experience.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

A. Perform hands-on installation support for new or modified production equipment.

B. Supervise and provide direction to contract engineering techs, internal maintenance, and outside contract trades during all aspects of equipment installation and conversion such as demolition, construction, installation, testing, and debug of production equipment.

C. Perform hands-on troubleshooting, process start-up, and documentation of Mechanical and Electrical Systems for new or modified production equipment.

D. Modify existing documentation to complete drawing packages, installation checklists, machine part lists, illustrations, and machine specs of production equipment.

E. Provide direction to technicians to create and modify existing documentation to complete drawing packages, installation checklists, machine part lists, illustrations, and machine specs of production equipment.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: (Majority of time will be spent on production floor working on equipment)

A. Assist in developing mechanical and electrical installation checklists and schedules. Oversee, as appropriate, the usage of these systems.

B. Procure and expedite materials for new or modified equipment.

C. Re-design mechanical components to reduce installation cost, solve equipment interferences, and correct inadequate designs.

D. Prepare work orders and direct maintenance personnel and outside contract trades in the fabrication, assembly, testing, and installation of equipment.

E. Create, review, and update installation documentation and drawings as required.

F. Execute initial equipment set-up and debug up to the point of turnover to operations.

G. Redline existing drawings and follow-up with drafting services or support draftsmen as required to resolve design issues.

H. Provide second-level troubleshooting support, directing contract engineering techs, and trades as necessary to replace defective components and recommend changes in design to solve equipment/process issues.

I. Provide training to contract engineering techs, internal maintenance, and outside contract trades on new equipment installation procedures as required for successful execution of installation activities.

J. Analyze and correct equipment installation practices to improve efficiencies, specifically directed toward enhancing installation schedules.

DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

Education required:

AAS Mechanical Engineering Technology, BS Mechanical Engineering Technology, BS Mechanical Engineering (Equivalent work experience may be considered in rare circumstances.)

Experience required:

Minimum 3+ years of experience

Equipment or software experience preferred:

Windows, MS Office suite including Power Point, Excel, Word, AutoCADĀ® 2023, Inventor 2023, MS Project, Pneumatic systems and schematics, Motion Control systems, Automated equipment systems

Equipment familiarization preferred:

A. Precision positioning devices and laser alignment devices

B. Equipment used for machine installation activities: man lifts, industrial equipment moving devices, hand tools, etc.

C. Electronic calibration equipment

D. Fluke Meters

E. Precision flow measurement devices
