CTG's premier client has a contract assignment for a Mechanical Technician III .

Type: Contract

Job Title: Mechanical Technician III

Location: Wilmington, NC

Candidates must be able to commute and work onsite in Wilmington, NC

Pay Rate: $28-30 per hour

Work Hours: M-F 8am-5pm (Hours will vary with no guarantee of overtime, but 10-20 hours per week is not uncommon and expected at times.)

Education: AAS in Mechanical Engineering Technology, BS in Mechanical Engineering Technology, or BS in Mechanical Engineering (Equivalent work experience may be considered in rare circumstances)

Description

  • Provide mechanical equipment designs and layouts that adhere to Corning Machine Drafting Standards using CAD-based formats (AutoCAD® 2023, Inventor 2023).

  • Create and modify documentation for drawing packages, equipment build packages, machine part lists, illustrations, and machine specifications of production equipment.

  • Assemble complete machine design packages from existing plant files, ensuring accuracy in drawings and adding necessary detail and assembly drawings.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Re-design mechanical components to reduce installation costs, resolve equipment interferences, and improve inadequate designs.

  • Create, review, and update installation documentation and drawings as required.

  • Redline existing drawings and coordinate with drafting services or oversee draftsmen to resolve design issues.

  • Execute design changes to address equipment and process issues.

  • Take personal responsibility for ensuring designs meet form, fit, and function goals set by internal customers and project managers.

  • Provide sketches or marked-up drawings as dictated by project needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: AAS in Mechanical Engineering Technology, BS in Mechanical Engineering Technology, or BS in Mechanical Engineering (Equivalent work experience may be considered in rare circumstances).

  • Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience.

Skills or Work Style Preferred:

  • Self-motivated and results-oriented

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively

  • Strong teamwork skills, particularly in small teams

  • Well-organized with a thorough understanding of GD&T

  • Proficient in pneumatic and electrical schematics

  • In-depth understanding of mechanical drive trains and actuators

Unique or Special Requirements:

  • Capability to generate comprehensive drawing packages for typical industrial equipment, from assembly to detailed drawings.

  • Ability to perform elementary design calculations, including statics, hydraulics, and power transmission.

Equipment or Software Experience Preferred:

  • Proficiency in Windows and MS Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)

  • Experience with AutoCAD® 2023, Vault, and Inventor 2023

Travel Requirements:

  • Minimal travel may be required to the Concord Plant or equipment vendors, but this is rare. Position requires occasional time spent on the floor to gather information on existing equipment.

Equipment Familiarization Preferred:

  • Personal computers and precision measurement devices (Tape Measure, Calipers, Micrometers)

  • Knowledge or direct experience with machine shop and fabrication processes that facilitate efficient manufacturing design.
