Patient Supply Technician

Performance Improvement

Population Served

• Recognizes special needs/concerns of populations served and adjusts communication accordingly, i.e., language barrier, diminished hearing, concrete terms, etc.

• Creates a safe and therapeutic environment that supports the special needs of the population served.

• Demonstrates effective abuse free verbal and non-verbal communication with residents/patients, their families, visitors and staff i.e., communicates in a respectful manner according to residential patient's stage of development and cultural background.

Organizational and Departmental Policies & Procedures

• Actively participates in staff meetings and/or committee on a regular basis

• Arrives on time for work and maintains good attendance

• Wears appropriate attire and presents a neat appearance, complies with Dress Code policy

• Fully understands and complies with organizational and departmental policies and procedures

• Aware of access to policies on the MHS intranet, HRHQ (i.e., Administrative Manual, HR policies, etc.)

• Seeks information and clarity when unsure of policy prior to initiating procedure

• Maintains current immunization and other Employee Health requirements

• Adheres to the Substance Misuse policy. Reports any signs of impairment, suspicious behavior or diversion of drugs to supervisor promptly.

• Protects all written and electronic patient information from view

• Shreds/"Shred It" all discarded patient related documents

• Adheres to the Statement of Confidentiality and all requirements as outlined in the HIPAA policies and procedure

• Ensures that all equipment is in proper working order, and takes malfunctioning equipment out of service. Report malfunctions promptly.

• Maintains a safe, neat clutter free work environment

• Assumes ownership of cleanliness and neatness of work area and throughout the organization

• Reports errors, environmental hazards and injuries to supervisor promptly

• Responds appropriately to fire drills, codes, etc.

• Can locate and reference Emergency/Disaster Preparedness policies and resources

• Demonstrates ability to prevent, recognize and report abuse

• Demonstrates ability to prevent, recognize and report infant/child abductions

• Demonstrates awareness of Safety Haven Protocol

• Recognizes patients at risk for falls and follows prevention interventions

• Recognizes and responds to changes in patient condition -- "Rapid Response" /Code

• Seeks to resolve conflicts in a respectful way

• Fully shares information that people need to do their job. Expresses ideas, opinions and reactions constructively

• Maintains an environment free of discrimination and harassment

• Reports disruptive clinician behavior in support of "Zero Tolerance" of disruptive behavior

• Supports non-retaliation for reporting disruptive behaviors

• Participates in continuing education and shows initiative for self-development and documents appropriately

• Maintains licensure/certification if applicable

• Supports the orientation process

• Seeks out information and shares information and expertise with co-workers

• Understands role in patient and family education (if appropriate)

• Provides the patient/family with appropriate educational materials and information (if appropriate).

Storeroom Functions

• Fills requisitions received through the PeopleSoft

• Assists hospital staff at front door requesting stock items

• Daily walk-up request and weekly orders

• Transports Par Level replacements and weekly orders to designated departments

Inventory Management

• Maintains par levels to ensure product availability while maintaining cost containment.

• Recalls and disposes of outdated disposable sterile supplies.

• Responsible for maintaining stock items on shelves.

• Transports receipt goods to storeroom as needed.

• Places stock items on proper shelf in storeroom.

• Assists in annual physical inventory counting.

• Checks daily Par level and exchange cart maintenance.

• Processing orders through computer.

Computer Function

• Proficient in the application of the materials management completion system.

• Charge nursing units for uncharged patient care items missing from par level carts.

• Responsible for answering questions concerning the operation of the computer and charges that arise daily.

• Instruct and oversee all co-workers assigned to computer area in the proper procedures for operation of computer system.

• Fills requisitions received through Lawson system.

Safety

• Complies with organization and departmental policies and procedures in regard to equipment safety standards.

• Performs miscellaneous cleaning tasks and maintains the general neatness of Materials Management Distribution Area.

• Reports all employee injuries i.e. needle stick to supervisor and employee health promptly.

• Utilizes good body mechanics when lifting, pushing or pulling carts as well as during repetitive tasks.

Communications

• Ability to relate and exchange information concerning work

• Handles all calls and refers to appropriate person/area, identifying self and department.

• Communicates with staff, family and visitors in a courteous manner; recognizes special needs/concerns of population served, as well as co-workers, and adjusts communication accordingly.

• Recognizes and integrates cultural differences when communicating with co-workers.

Other duties as needed and assigned by the manager.

Adheres to applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Integrity and Compliance Program and Code of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures.

Education: High School graduate or equivalent.

Skills:

• Computer skills

• Possesses excellent communication skills to communicate with all levels of hospital personnel.

• Must have working knowledge of computer/handhelds and software of Materials Management.

• Ability and knowledge to be cross-trained in various positions in Materials Management departments.

Experience:

Three (3) years Central Service experience preferred.
