Description:

Directs and coordinates the administrative and technical systems of the Microbiology department at Saint Francis Hospital. Reports to the Director of Laboratory and participates in the development, interpretation and application of departmental policies, budgets, personnel management and planning for laboratory services as delegated by the Director.

Provides effective and efficient administration of laboratory services.

• Performs duties as assigned by the Director.

• Routinely reports to the Director:

o Monthly quality assurance parameters.

o Productivity including overtime usage.

o Any departmental or site problems.

o Statistics.

o Quality control reports.

• Prepares reports, documents, payroll records and statistical surveys for Microbiology lab.

• Meets with laboratory staff on a regular basis to discuss laboratory issues/concerns and communication. Ensures that staff is supported.

• Cooperates with the Director to develop and update strategic laboratory volumes and improve laboratory services.

• Coordinates laboratory activities on site and cooperates with laboratory leadership in the successful operation of performance improvement initiatives.

• Develops interdepartmental relationships in order to assist in future patient care and reengineering plans.

•Develops communication plans regarding changes in laboratory practices and provides consultations.

• Represents the laboratory department is work groups or committees as assigned.

• Communicates effectively and consistently with the Director.

• In cooperation with the Director of Laboratory and Laboratory Medical Director, develops and promotes laboratory services and programs consistent with the mission and goals of Trinity Health System.

• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of clinical laboratory advances and changes in practice in Microbiology and Molecular Diagnostics.

• Develops clinical lab services to meet the requirements of accrediting agencies and Trinity Health Laboratory customers.

• Maintains compliance with laboratory accreditation and regulatory standards and guidelines..

• Evaluates the effectiveness and appropriateness of laboratory services provided at all testing agencies.

• Makes a recommendation for improving or correcting any deficiencies.

• Monitors standards of performance and customer satisfaction levels to ensure the quality of all aspects of clinical laboratory testing.

• Assists laboratory leadership team in the development of employee orientation and competency programs.

• Provides education sessions for clinical laboratory employees.

• Ensures that the frequency of quality control and proficiency testing provides for quality testing levels and meets the standards of all accrediting agencies.

• Ensures that departmental supplies and reagent inventory are at optimum levels.
