Overview:
As a Senior Specialist of Inventory & Logistics, you’ll play a critical role in driving operational excellence and ensuring seamless inventory and supply chain processes within Wayfair’s Physical Retail store in Wilmette. Reporting to the Department Manager, you’ll lead key initiatives that optimize inventory accuracy, streamline logistics operations, and enhance overall store efficiency. Leveraging data-driven insights and problem-solving expertise, you’ll implement best practices that improve product availability, minimize discrepancies, and support a flawless customer shopping experience.
In this role, you’ll also mentor Logistics & Inventory Specialists, collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, and take ownership of projects that enhance store performance. What Does a Sr. Specialist of Inventory & Logistics Do?
Demonstrate Reliability & Professionalism: Maintain strong attendance and communication to support business needs. Proactively address scheduling or operational challenges to ensure consistent store coverage.
Lead Inventory Control & Accuracy: Own the Cycle Count Program and other inventory control initiatives to ensure accurate stock levels, minimize shrinkage, and optimize inventory flow. Analyze data trends to forecast demand and adjust inventory strategies accordingly.
Optimize Logistics & Supply Chain Operations: Evaluate and refine logistics processes to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve fulfillment speed. Implement best practices for shipment processing, stock replenishment, and overall supply chain coordination.
Oversee Shipment Processing & Vendor Coordination: Manage inbound and outbound shipments, ensuring accurate receiving, processing, and dispatch. Partner with vendors and distribution teams to resolve fulfillment discrepancies and improve delivery timelines.
Drive Operational Excellence & Compliance: Monitor adherence to inventory and logistics policies, conduct regular audits, and implement corrective actions to maintain high operational standards.
Mentor & Develop Logistics Team Members: Train and support Logistics & Inventory Specialists, providing guidance on best practices, troubleshooting challenges, and fostering a high-performance culture.
Analyze Performance & Drive Data-Driven Decisions: Track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to inventory, shipping, and logistics. Leverage insights to identify areas for improvement and make informed recommendations.
Ensure Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate with store leadership, merchandising, and operations teams to integrate logistics processes with broader business objectives. Provide insights to improve product availability and customer experience.
Solve Problems & Lead Continuous Improvement: Identify operational bottlenecks and implement innovative solutions to enhance workflow, accuracy, and efficiency in logistics operations.
Adapt to Rapid Change & Evolving Business Needs: Thrive in a fast-paced environment by staying agile, managing shifting priorities, and proactively addressing challenges as they arise.
What are the Job Requirements?
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field preferred, or equivalent work experience.
Experience: 3-5 years of experience in inventory control, logistics, or supply chain operations, preferably in a retail environment. Experience leading projects, mentoring team members, and driving operational improvements.
Inventory & Logistics Expertise: Strong understanding of inventory management principles, logistics workflows, and best practices for stock accuracy and shipment processing. Experience with WMS systems and inventory tracking technology is a plus.
Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop effective solutions to improve efficiency, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness.
Leadership & Collaboration: Proven ability to mentor, train, and develop team members while working cross-functionally with store leadership, merchandising, and operations teams.
Technical Proficiency: Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) or Google Suite (especially Sheets). Familiarity with inventory management systems, order management tools, and scan technology preferred.
Physical Requirements: Ability to perform frequent movement, including standing, kneeling, crouching, and repetitive motions. Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs as needed.
Availability: Open schedule availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays, is required.
