The Plant Manager (PM) is responsible for oversight of plant activities in order to meet business objectives by driving the corporate mission and vision into daily operations. The PM is accountable for all aspects of plant performance while ensuring that near- and longer-term key performance indicators (KPIs) and business objectives are attained in a cost-effective manner that is consistent with health & safety, quality and environmental requirements. The PM delegates authority to key supervisors in production and manages all activities related to plant operations. The PM is responsible and accountable for all aspects of Latham’s headquarters facilities (beyond the plant) to ensure that business is conducted in a safe, clean and responsible manner consistent with the company’s policies and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The PM’s core focus areas are:
Functional Control
Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S)
Lean Six Sigma / Continuous Improvement
Talent Management/Human Resources
Lead the operation of a safe and environmentally compliant facility
Execute the company’s EH&S policies, procedures, training and practices
Establish routine practices to assure compliance with OSHA/MoE/MoL standards (US/CA)
Maintain facility security
Execute the plant production plan
Meet/exceed order fulfilment demands within the company’s established Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
Ensure that quality criteria are adhered to in the production process
Oversee facility, plant and equipment maintenance to minimize downtime
Lead 3rd party and in-house CDL resources to meet customer timelines
Develop, maintain and deliver the facility’s expense budget
Prepare, submit and manage Capital Expenditure Projects (CERs) to provide measurable return
Drive Variable Cost Productivity (VCP) and Base Cost Productivity (BCP) projects including defining and monitoring project goals and objectives through to completion
Specifically, improved throughput and labor utilization through targeted lean / six sigma projects and daily execution
Specifically, improved material utilization and minimize material variances through targeted lean / six sigma projects and daily execution
Monitor operations and trigger corrective actions
Participate in Project Management (PMO) activities
Partner with shared services leaders (i.e. Quality, EH&S, Planning/Scheduling, Warranty, Customer Service & Design) in the tactical and strategic execution of plant performance
Manages and maintains the Latham headquarters, including all areas of the facility and oversees third parties and internal staff responsible for maintenance and upkeep.
Performs Human Resources functions, including:
Performing salary administration and performance review tasks according to the annual headcount plan/budget and established processes and procedures
All aspects of the employee lifecycle - Identifying staffing needs, conducting job interviews, making recommendations for direct and indirect hires and assuring a culture of cross-training is realized
Administering cultural programs and assuring an environment of engagement, inclusion and open communication where employee issues are addressed proactively
Partnering with Human Resources to communicate and uphold company policies, procedures and laws
Develop a culture of long-term succession plans and provide the training and guidance to those in the plan
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree is required in Engineering, Safety, Science or a Business – related field
(An associate’s degree may be considered with commensurate experience.)
A minimum of 10 years of experience in a manufacturing/engineering related field to include:
5 + years of experience in capital expenditure management
5 + years of experience with Lean Six Sigma tools and methods
3 + years of experience in a manufacturing plant
3 + years of installation or logistics experience
Lean Manufacturing experience. Six Sigma Green / Black belt preferred
Knowledge of basic accounting and finance principles/budgeting
Familiarity with industry standard equipment and processes with technical ability
Strong supervisory, teambuilding, decision-making and people management skills
Ability to create accountability and lead by example
Demonstrated understanding of safety, quality, productivity, inventory, employee relations
Project management experience preferred
Ability to work well independently and as part of cross-functional teams
Ability to recruit and develop high performing teams in a manufacturing environment
Ability to develop and implement processes that drive continuous improvement
Proficiency in reading and interpreting business reports, metrics and KPIs
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, used to effectively represent the company with responses to inquiries or complaints from customers, employees and regulatory agencies.
Familiarity with logistics including oversized loads, crane and forklift operations
Regularly required to talk or hear, frequently required to stand; walk; bend; use hands and fingers and reach with hands and arms, prolonged sitting, repetitive computer use, occasionally lift up to 20 pounds
Proficient in all aspects of Microsoft Office software
Travel requirements: Generally, less than 10% with occasional overnights
