The Department of Labor & Industry, Office of Vocational Rehabilitation is searching for an Orientation and Mobility Specialist to assist Pennsylvanians with disabilities to gain the skills necessary to live and work independently in their communities. The purpose of the position is for the employee to apply knowledge to assist blind and visually impaired customers to learn independent travel techniques within their homes, workplaces, and communities. DESCRIPTION OF WORK Through a structured training program, you focus on providing orientation and mobility instruction to blind and visually impaired customers in individualized and group settings as well as teaching coping skills and adaptive techniques to promote self-sufficiency and independent living. In addition, you assess referrals and interview customers, develop an individualized service plan for each individual, select appropriate instructional equipment, and monitor and evaluate customer progress.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment, 37.5-hour work week Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday, with 30-minute lunch. You will have the opportunity to work from home (telework), part-time up 2 days a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Wilkes-Barre. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Successful completion of the commonwealth's Orientation and Mobility Intern program or; A bachelor's or master's degree or certificate from an approved college or university program in orientation and mobility that includes a practicum; or Possession of an active Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist certificate issued by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP).
