We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Project Engineer with our Chemical Manufacturing Facility located in Wichita, Kansas.

Essential Job Duties:

Maintain protection of the environment and the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate and/or transport our products, as our highest priority.

Provide a high level of engineering services. Act independently and exercise critical judgment in simple or highly complex applications of engineering principles. Provide accurate and thorough engineering reviews of existing processes and process change requests. Support process hazard reviews to assure the safety, reliability and economic performance of the plant production units.

Prepare detailed engineering proposals for simple or highly complex capital and expense projects.

Identify opportunities to improve the Wichita Plant's safety, operating and engineering performance by sound application of engineering principles and practices. Initiate proposals to evaluate and implement these opportunities.

Develop and communicate project plans required to achieve scope, budget, and schedule goals of simple to highly complex projects. Define goals, organize, and coordinate the resources required.

Develop criteria necessary to specify equipment and facilities. Prepare specifications for equipment that accurately define OCC requirements (level of quality, reliability, and performance standards). Utilize existing OCC, plant and industry standards where applicable.

Support the competitive bidding process to assure cost effective purchase of materials and services, screen and recommend bidders, develop inquiries that accurately define technical, commercial, and administrative requirements.

Organize, coordinate and oversee the installation and implementation of assigned projects. Monitor execution, assuring competent engineering review, resolution of problems and project completion within scope, cost, and schedule constraints.

Assure that approved project goals are achieved or exceeded by maintaining sufficient project control to promptly identify significant variance from plan. Initiate and document corrective action. Document completion and close project within guidelines.

Provide counsel and leadership to less experienced engineers. Function as lead engineer on programs or projects requiring the coordination of other engineer's activities.

Maintain a high level of expertise, as recognized by the Oxy technical community, in project management techniques. Identify and develop comprehensive programs of professional development to maintain and improve the department's functional expertise. Obtain approval and implement the programs.

Maintain continuing liaison with specific Wichita line and staff departments. Evaluate and screen requests for service and define the appropriate response. Represent the department to assignment sponsors and communicate Engineering's appraisal of proposed projects and the department's plan to achieve sponsor's objectives.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science Degree in an Engineering with a minimum 5 years of engineering experience in manufacturing environment.  

High proficiency in Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to read, write and speak in English

Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.

Physical requirements include lifting of up to 40 lbs., climbing stairs and ladders, and bending, stooping, and walking on concrete floors for much of the day.
