2025 Internship - Mechanical Design Engineer (Research & Development)

J OB SUMMARY:

TheInteriorsResearch and Development Intern positionis responsible fororiginating,researchingand developing ideas into designs that support theexisting andnewaircraftdevelopment process. Candidateis required toperform duties in support the interior design of theaircraftsuch as design research, human factors layout, physical mock-up development, 3D computer modeling,software development,coordination with other technical groups, status reporting to supervisors, and presentation of conceptual designs to audiences inside and outside of Textron Aviation.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Generateand buildconcepts for innovative products and features based on provided criteria

• Plan andparticipatein ideation exercises, engineering research, design,developmentand manufacturing including other methods the team may discover to develop a successful team project

• Collaborate with engineering, advanced interior design, industrial design, technical groups,suppliersand others to develop, implement,monitorand status the progress of a given project

• Develop and integrate software todemonstrateR&D concepts

• The candidate willresearch anddevelop concepts and work withIndustrial Design,Interior Advanced Design Engineeringand Human Factors Engineeringto develop detail designs of human factors withinaircraft

• Use market research, customer experience, analysis of competitive designs, trends, human factors layout and physical mock-ups to evaluate conceptual designs.

• Develop 3D geometry usingCATIAmodeling software and evaluate design ideas based on appearance, functional design, serviceability, manufacturing methods,materialsand production costs

Qualifications

EDUCATION /EXPERIENCE :

Pursuinginone or more of the following fields:

• Engineering

• Industrial Design

• related technical field

QUALIFICATIONS :

• Professional and diplomatic demeanor

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Collaborates and easily gets along in team-based environments

• Software skills inAndroid OS, Apple iOS, HTML,Pythonand/or C is beneficial

• Software skills in CATIAis beneficial

• Previousprofessional experience throughan internship or Co-op is beneficial

Applicants mustbe authorized towork lawfully in the U.S. for Textron Aviation at the time of making application, and visa sponsorship is not available for this position, including for F-1 students and J-1 exchange visitors who will need employment sponsorship.

Summer internships are40 hoursper week typically from late-May to early-August lasting10 weeks.

Candidates must be able to work onsite for the entirety of the internship program unless approved otherwise by the hiring manager.
