Whether in a direct-care or support role, your contribution will make a difference in the life of a Texan.The RN I performs entry level nursing work at the advanced beginner level. Works under the clinical supervision of more experienced Registered Nurses (RN II / III / IV) and provides basic level nursing care to an assigned group of patients. Assists more experienced nurses in assessing patients nursing care needs. Observes, assesses, plans, performs, evaluates, and documents patient care. Contributes observations to senior nurses and other treatment team members to assist in planning for the patientsand#146; care. Acknowledges, transcribes, and reviews physician orders. Administers medications and basic treatments as ordered and alerts senior nurse of any discrepancies. Promotes, establishes, and maintains the therapeutic milieu. Performs one to one interactions with patients in order to assess their needs and may assist others in providing group interventions, Assists in teaching and directs the implementation of nursing care by non-professional staff. Provides clinical supervision to Licensed Vocational Nurses and Psychiatric Nursing Assistants. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team. May relieve as charge nurse or act as supervisor.Essential Job Functions1. Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.2. Documents assessment, diagnoses, plan, implementation and evaluation in patient record based on developmental level and age.3. Directs the implementation of nursing care by non-professional staff. Makes regular rounds and role models effective patient interactions to non-professional staff.4. Carries out physicianand#146;s orders according to acceptable nursing care standards and hospital policies and procedures.5. Promotes, establishes, and maintains the therapeutic milieu. Assumes responsibility for patient care and management of the unit in the absence of the Charge RN with supervisory support via telephone, and immediate on-site availability as needed.6. Provides basic patient/family education to individuals or groups as appropriate to increase patient knowledge of medications, health/hygiene skills, and disease management/prevention etc. to promote independent living skills.7. Serves as an effective member of the treatment team, implements basic nursing care plan, engages patients in therapeutic interactions, and supports unit milieu/programs to assist patients in meeting individual goals.8. Maintains accountability for medications, assigned medication room, and the security of assigned unit keys.9.
