Description
: The Assistant to the President performs a wide range of administrative and office support duties of moderate complexity within the Office of the President at Midwestern State University. In addition to general office tasks, maintaining accounts, and preparing various forms and contracts, duties will include coordinating and managing Office of the President events under the direction of the Executive Assistant to the President. The role requires interacting professionally with university officials, staff, faculty, students, and visitors, both in person and via telephone, ensuring a high level of service and efficiency. This position is an integral part of the Presidents Office team and reports to the Chief of Staff.
Examples
: Produces work with accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness and handles duties in a responsible manner. Plans and organizes work to ensure timely completion of tasks and functions; prepares purchase requisitions, travel vouchers, forms, and related materials; proofreads documents and other materials carefully to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency. Works with the Executive Assistant to the President and Chief of Staff to coordinate and manage events sponsored by the Office of the President, including events hosted at the Presidents home and on campus. Maintains office files, equipment, and inventory, and drives to purchase supplies and make deliveries as needed. Demonstrates a willingness to assist with whatever needs to be done to help the Office of the President operate effectively and efficiently. Manages the Office of the President in the absence of the Executive Assistant to the President.
Physical Condition
: Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs.
Experience
: Two or more years of related office experience. Experience working with the public in person, through e-mail, and telephone. Experience in event planning or coordination is a plus. Must hold a valid drivers license and automobile insurance.
Knowledge
: Knowledge of general office procedures and practices as well as knowledge and skill in using various software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat. Knowledge of simple bookkeeping such as recording and tracking expenditures, and reconciling accounts. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations; type proficiently using a computer keyboard; organize and complete multiple tasks in a timely manner; and perform work requiring accuracy and attention to detail.
Education
: A bachelor's degree is preferred, though a high school diploma with extensive relevant experience may be substituted.

Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently on difficult or complex assignments. Must be well-organized and able to work in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility to attend occasional after-hours and weekend events as needed. Confidentiality, internal and external, is required.
