Indian Health Service Advanced Practice Pharmacy Technician in Whiteriver, Arizona

Summary The positions are located at the Whiteriver Service Unit, Pharmacy Department at Whiteriver, AZ. The incumbent will perform a variety of complex technical functions which require application of an extensive knowledge of pharmaceuticals and pharmacy practices. Incumbent will apply judgment based on substantial experience in the pharmacy department. Direct Supervision is performed under a licensed pharmacist. Responsibilities This position is being re-advertised to solicit additional applications. Applicants who applied previously need not reapply unless submitting updated and/or missing information. Reviews of orders for completeness, obtains clarifications as necessary from the patient profile, inputs the order in computer system and accurately fills the order. Interprets, monitors and analyzes medication orders. Operates and performs maintenance of the unit dose packaging machine. Maintains working knowledge of and operates automated dispensing system. Provides patient care as developed through advanced certification. Interfaces with other healthcare providers and administrators to ensure compliance with established pharmacy policies and procedures. Manages inventory of medications and supplies relative to day-to-day fluctuations and assessment of needs. Maintains compliance with storage requirements. Monitors expiration dates of existing inventory. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must pass pre-employment examination. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0661-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples Include: Reviews of orders for completeness, obtains clarifications as necessary from the patient profile, inputs the order in computer system and accurately fills the order; Receives prescriptions to be filled and determines the correct drug to be dispensed; Screens incoming telephone calls and appropriately triages; Maintains knowledge of drug and medication brand names, generic names, and chemical names; Interprets, monitors and analyzes medication orders; Verifies accuracy of generated label with the correct patient name, medical identification number, physician, date written, drug name, strength, dosage form and quantity; Performs the filling of new, refill and discharge prescriptions. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0661-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Evaluating, analyzing and coordinating work activities to meet workflow demands; independently gathering and analyzing data to generate reports for projects//statistical purposes; training new employees and other pharmacy staff; operating and maintaining specialized pharmacy equipment; performing pharmaceutical procurement and formulary management; maintaining controlled substances per policy and procedures; & performing annual pharmaceutical inventory procedures. OR; Completed one (1) year (18 semester hours) of graduate education that is directly related to the position. OR; Your resume must demonstrate a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-07 grade level. Selective factor (SF): The function/job duty in the Position Description and Job Analysis that requires this Selective Factor. The knowledge and skills for the SF are required certifications in the following: Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) from Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or other accepted credentialing organization. AND Certified in one of the specialties from an accrediting institution listed below: Immunization Administration Certification Medication History Certification Anticoagulation Certification Technician Product Verification Certification Compounded Sterile Product Certification Hazardous Drug Management Certification Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
