WSP USA Senior Environmental Engineer in Whitby, Ontario

The Opportunity:

WSP is currently seeking a Senior Environmental Engineer to join our national Remediation Program Management (RPM) team.

This senior role will play a crucial role as a registered professional with strong project and program management and leadership skills having at least 10 to 15 years of experience in the design and oversight of environmental remediation and industrial facility decommissioning projects.

Why Remediation Program Management?

WSP’s RPM team is one of the most established and exciting teams in Canada. We have been providing contaminated site program management services to the worlds most technically focused companies for over 15 years. We consistently have backlog of 9 to 12 months and we are growing. We specialize in health and safety, Phase I/II ESAs, remediation, and risk assessment. Our team takes on the biggest Canadian projects from coast to coast to coast.

Reporting to the Manager of RPM, this role is responsible for the technical direction of a large portfolio of sites including large and complex remediation and risk assessment projects. The projects range in type, size and complexity, and the successful candidate will also be able to work with clients as a senior resource.

You will:

  • Review of assessment plans, strategies, and deliverables;

  • Manage projects from proposal to implementation, including proposal preparation, contract review, project delivery, financial control; and,

  • Use a proactive approach to client relationship management to ensure deliverables meet client expectations for scope, budget, schedule, and quality.

  • Possess diverse fieldwork experience, project management expertise and sound knowledge of applicable provincial and federal environmental regulations;

  • Collaborate across the national RPM team and WSP.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to contaminated sites project managers.

  • Participate in business development activities to support growth of the RPM team and strengthen client relationships.

What You’ll Bring to WSP:

  • A university degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Geoscience or other technical discipline.

  • At least 10-15 years of experience in Environmental Consulting relevant working experience in the field of environmental site assessment (Phase I ESA, Phase II ESA, O.Reg. 153/04), and working knowledge of relevant regulations (O.Reg. 406/19)

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including persuasion and negotiation abilities to achieve consensus, resolve conflict and achieve desired outcomes;

  • Experience providing project and client specific technical advice and senior review of project deliverables;

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a project team of professionals with excellent communication skills both internally with staff and externally with clients;

  • Strong communication (written and verbal), interpersonal and teamwork skills as well as the technical writing skills needed for client deliverables

  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse teams and with multiple priorities.

  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to travel within Canada to engage with RPM team members and clients.
