WSP USA Manager, Contaminated Sites in Whitby, Ontario

The Opportunity:

WSP is currently seeking an environmental manager to join our national Remediation Program Management (RPM) team.

This senior role will play a crucial part in overseeing and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of our operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in contaminated sites management, effective risk management practices, and the ability to support delivery of strategic client-centric programs and projects.

Why Remediation Program Management?

WSP’s RPM team is one of the most established and exciting teams in Canada. We have been providing contaminated site program management services to the worlds most technically focused companies for over 15 years. We consistently have backlog of 9 to 12 months and we are growing. We specialize in health and safety, Phase I/II ESAs, remediation, and risk assessment. Our team takes on the biggest Canadian projects from coast to coast to coast.

Reporting to the Director of RPM, this role is responsible for managing the Ontario RPM team. The team consists of environmental technicians, project coordinators, project managers, technical experts and qualified professionals in various offices across Ontario . The projects range in type, size and complexity, and the successful candidate will also be able to work on these projects as a senior resource.

You will:

  • Create a safe and positive environment for colleagues.

  • Review of cost estimates and other client deliverables

  • Supporting employees to prioritize and organize their work to meet utilization targets and project commitments.

  • Supporting employees on careering development and performance, including team mentorship.

  • Participate in human resources activities throughout the year, including annual performance and salary reviews, hiring and recruitment process, and employee onboarding and offboarding.

  • Working with the RPM Director and Vice President, support the financial success of the team by monitoring financial results and working to implement changes or improvements to achieve desired financial results.

  • Manage client relationships worth $5M to $10M.

  • Communicate company policies and mandates as provided by leadership or elsewhere to the RPM team and oversee their application if necessary.

  • Collaborate across the national RPM team and WSP.

  • Inspire team commitment to our Company Guiding Principles and Vision.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to contaminated sites project managers.

  • Participate in business development activities to support growth of the RPM team and strengthen client relationships.

What You’ll Bring to WSP:

  • A university degree or above in environmental science, engineering, business studies, or other related field.

  • Proven experience, providing team leadership and management in contaminated sites.

  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience in an engineering consulting environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse teams and with multiple priorities.

  • Strong business acumen and financial management experience, developing, tracking and forecasting on annual budgets exceeding $5M annually.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Demonstrated success in team management and leadership, with a focus on fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to travel within Canada to engage with RPM team members and clients.
