Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Director of New Business and Conflicts. This position could be based in any of our U.S. offices (Austin; Chicago; Boston; Houston; Los Angeles; New York; Menlo Park; Orange County; Portland; Sacramento; San Francisco; Santa Monica; Seattle; Washington DC; or Wheeling, WV) with consideration given for 100% remote US locations.

The Objective: In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for overseeing our New Business and Conflicts function across the firm. You will be the driving force behind ensuring timely evaluation and resolution of potential conflicts of interest, managing new business intake, and facilitating the clearance and onboarding of lateral attorneys.

What Will I Do: Your will manage and lead our New Business and Conflicts team of approximately 30 analysts and attorneys. Your expertise will be instrumental in developing and implementing best practices and procedures to address conflicts and new business intake efficiently and effectively in alignment with our firm's culture and strategic objectives. You will work closely with various departments including the Office of the General Counsel, Risk Management Committee, Practice Management Committee, Finance, Innovation, Digital, and others.

Responsibilities

How Will I Spend My Time? You will spend most of your time on these responsibilities: New Business and Conflicts Processes: Manage and develop the NB&C team, ensuring alignment with Firm's goals and fostering a client service-oriented environment. Regularly update conflicts, new business intake, and lateral hiring processes in accordance with ethical rules and strategic goals. Implement procedures for proper review of engagement terms, ethical wall establishment, and maintenance of client and matter database.

Lateral Hires: Supervise conflicts clearance for new lateral hires and establish early conflict identification procedures. Track and maintain logs of lateral hire client/matter lists. Assist in efficient onboarding of new lateral hires and their clients.

Data Management and Reporting: Ensure accuracy and consistency of data entry in firm systems. Manage enhancements and updates to firm systems. Coordinate periodic data cleanup projects and provide business development information to practice groups. Distribute lists of ethical screens for review and supervise audits on conflict and engagement term maintenance.

Research Tools: Establish research methodology to support NB&C conflicts intake and lateral onboarding. Coordinate integration with other departments' databases and resources.

Restricted Securities & Regulations: Develop and enforce procedures for regulatory changes related to NB&C function. Administer restricted securities list submissions and monitor new client/matter regulatory procedures. Other: Conduct regular training on conflicts and new business intake procedures.
