The Driver Education Trainee position is part of a structured 3-year training program designed to prepare you for the Target Class of Motor Vehicle Analyst (https://www.jobapscloud.com/CT/specs/classspecdisplay.asp?ClassNumber=1865AR&R1=undefined&R3=undefined) . The length of the training program is set on the experience and training requirements of the target class. At the completion of the training program, incumbents must meet the experience and training requirements of the designated class.

    THE ROLE

    The Driver Education Trainee (PPT) position will be assisting the Program Coordinator and Division Manager in the Driver Education and Testing Unit .

    As a Driver Education Trainee, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Interpreting, administering, and ensuring conformance with the requirements of pertinent state and federal laws, planning and managing program activities

  • Making recommendations on policy and standards

  • Making recommendations for program improvement

  • Developing and implementing such recommendations

  • Maintaining auditable records and filing reports

  • Communication and collaboration with internal units and external partners and organizations who might impact program activities

  • Representing the department at meetings and leading department wide initiatives

  • Researching and responding to complex issues, assigning, reviewing and auditing work, and conducting performance evaluations

  • Participating in IT projects

  • Coordinating and participating in training programs for school bus and driving school instructors

    Pre-Professional Trainee Program

    *Salary

    Initial Appointment to PPT Program

    Minimum of CL 13 or current employee rate plus 3%, whichever is higher, but not to exceed the maximum of Salary Group CL 19

    After (2) Years of Training

    Maximum of Salary Group CL 13, i.e., Step 10, or current Pre-Professional Trainee rate plus 3%, whichever is higher, but not to exceed the maximum of Salary Group CL 19.

    Anniversary Increase

    Increase of 3% of current salary

    (not to exceed the maximum of Salary Group CL 19)

    Motor Vehicle Analyst

    $74,750-$96,734 | subject to change per Collective Bargaining Agreement

    PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

    In a state agency planned training program approved by the Commissioner of Administrative Services receives formal and/or on-the-job instruction and training designed to provide the necessary knowledge and skills to qualify for appointment to a designated professional administrative or technical classification.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Receives formal and/or on-the-job instruction and training in introductory administrative, professional or technical work designed to develop knowledge and skills needed in order to qualify for appointment and advancement in a designated specialty;

  • Performs a wide variety of increasingly complex, diversified and difficult duties as competencies are acquired during course of training period and in accordance with approved time schedule;

  • May prepare reports on progress of training;

  • Performs related duties as required.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

    Evidence of basic aptitudes, motivation, interest and ability sufficient to provide reasonable foundation for acquiring knowledges and skills required for a designated technical or professional classification.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

    Three (3) years of current employment as a state employee including one (1) year in work related to the target class.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with Department Motor Vehicle (DMV) and criminal systems specifically, Quick Service Center (QSC) (including Offsite scheduling), Criminal On-Line Law Enforcement Communications Teleprocessing (COLLECT), CT Information Sharing System (CISS)

  • Experience with Entry Level Driver Training and CDL appointment systems

  • Experience with licensing, driving school, and instructors

  • Experience with school bus training regulations, reviewing instructor applications, and meeting with master instructors

  • Experience utilizing the agency overtime database system

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class will be eligible for promotion without competitive examination upon completion of a specified period of training and satisfactory service. The length of the training plan must be sufficient to allow incumbents to fully meet experience and training requirements of the target class. The training period may be one, two or three years depending on the experience and training requirements of the target class as follows:

  • All appointments to this class shall be under terms of a training program and in accordance with a time schedule approved by the Commissioner of Administrative Services. All training plans must be approved by the Department of Administrative Services prior to appointment to this class.

  • Persons having responsibility for supervising or observing the behavior of inmates or custodial clients will be required to possess a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certification by the time of permanent appointment.
