Position Overview:

As theAluminum Packaging Innovation Engineering Manager, youre a key member of the Metal Innovation Engineering team, reporting to the Director, Innovation Metal Engineering. You will contribute to the success of Ball by leading, summarizing and reporting technical project work related to ends, closures and resealable beverage containers while providing supervisory responsibilities over a team of engineers.

Your Key Areas of Responsibilities Include:

  • Work closely with the Innovation Design Manager, Metal Container Manager and Lab Manager to coordinate project work and create / maintain higher level updates and reviews with cross functional internal & external stakeholders.

  • Responsible for leading, reporting, and stakeholder management of closure and resealable beverage packaging projects.

  • Generate and maintain technical summaries, product overviews and project pipelines for frequently reporting out project status, organizational alignment and updating stakeholders.

  • Work collaboratively with Innovation leadership to set project priorities and ensure smooth workflow between Metal Innovation, Process Innovation, Non-Metal Innovation, Design, and pilot facility teams.

  • Use of stage gate & project management tools such as MS project along with detailed documentation to lead cross functional collaboration or communication with areas such as Strategy & Marketing, Commercial, external customers and Operations & Engineering.

  • Manage suppliers, 3rd party partners, and engineering teams to think systematically in order to identify root causes, track progress, identify fixes and overcome project challenges related to multiple substrates including plastic, metal and composites.

  • Create new re-closable beverage packaging design as well as improvements to beverage ends and caps using multiple substrates or hybrid solutions and generate/execute various mechanical and process testing on new packaging.

  • Work with design team to develop closure technology including tooling related to plastic injection, metal forming and composite materials as well as equipment configurations and sequences to create final products.

  • Work with new and existing suppliers to create new or transfer existing processes, equipment and technologies to metal forming applications and needs.

  • Create and document closure innovations into finalized Intellectual Property (IP), including patents and trade secrets.

  • Make use of analytical and statistical evaluation tools such as DOE, FMEA, Cost Models, Statistically Relevant and comparison to control data.

  • Create comprehensive engineering packages for Operations and Engineering to support new product production start-ups and minimize operation issues in a plant environment.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally, provide support, and at times create quality tests, SOPs, equipment documentation, tooling, material specs, safety procedures, etc.

  • Lead engineering team to generate/support business cases for new products including evaluation of capital equipment, material usage, product efficiencies and other strategic initiatives.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelors degree in an Engineering or other technical related discipline.

  • 8+ years of job-related experience in a beverage container manufacturing engineering role.

  • Experience in analysis of technical concepts, knowledge of inner-workings of heavy manufacturing equipment and understanding of metal forming, plastic injection, and composite materials.

  • Demonstrated Skills in all of the following:

  • Metal Beverage packaging and closure requirements

  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Strong Leadership skills, with a demonstrated capability of making critical decision under pressure.

  • Strong ability to multitask and troubleshoot in a non-linear manner.

  • Project Management skills and the ability to provide big picture view of project details to leadership.

  • Experience using stage gate & project management tools (such as MS project).

  • Ability of overcoming roadblocks and enabling others with clear communication, troubleshooting, and support where/when needed.

  • Culture champion; can relate openly and working well with diverse groups.

  • Strong technical drawing, dimensioning (including GD&T), metrology, tool manufacture and machine knowledge.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Masters in Business Administration or Masters Degree in Engineering

Compensation & Benefits

  • Onsite Work Environment: This position is based in Westeminster, CO and requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site 5 days per week. Travel (10-20%) and local commute between Ball locations and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

  • Hiring Salary Range: $107,100 - $153,300 (Salary to be determined by the applicants education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.)

  • This role will be eligible to participate in the annual incentive compensation plan.
