Manager - I-E Utilities

We are seeking a highly experienced and knowledgeable Manager of Electrical Power Systems to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical power systems, strong leadership skills, and a proven track record working in an industrial environment.

This position will interact with the local electric utility for both emergency and routine activities as required. This person will be able to troubleshoot complex electrical systems to maintain a high degree of electrical reliability. This person will support the operation and oversee the electrical maintenance of two General Electric 13.8kV Generators which help supply power to the site. This person will be familiar with electrical power equipment in the medium voltage range of 2.4 kV, 4.16 kV, 13.8 kV, and 34.5 kV. This person will initiate improvements to increase electrical reliability, obsolescence, and growth.

Job Responsibilities:

  • This role is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Medium Voltage Electrical Power System throughout the facility.

  • Closely collaborate with building stakeholders to schedule maintenance and repair activities.

  • Responsible for supervising and managing internal Medium Voltage Electricians and Power House Technicians.

  • Responsible for managing Contractor Electricians for maintenance and electrical testing activities.

  • Developing operation and maintenance plans for new and existing substations.

  • Responsible for leading and executing complex electrical switching operations.

  • Experience with automatic transfer schemes and emergency generator integration.

  • Provide technical expertise and support for electrical distribution system troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including project managers, building owners, designers, and other engineers to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems within larger projects.

  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and regulations related to electrical power systems.

  • Provide leadership to successfully execute electrical operations in a safe and efficient manner.

Position Qualifications:

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred:

  • Trade school

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Experience supervising union electricians in an industrial operation

  • A minimum of [5] years of experience working as an Electrical Supervisor, with a focus on safety, leadership, and medium voltage electrical distribution systems.

  • Extensive knowledge of NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, and NFPA 70B.

  • In-depth knowledge of electrical engineering principles, theories, and concepts related to power systems and distribution networks.

  • Expertise in troubleshooting and evaluating electrical faults and failures.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex electrical systems and propose effective solutions.

  • Proficiency in relevant Microsoft Office applications.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience operating Medium Voltage Power Systems

  • Experience supervising union employees and contractors

  • Relevant professional experience supporting utilities operations

  • Experience in troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis

  • Ability to handle and prioritize a large number of simultaneous assignments and quickly adapt to changes in business priorities

  • Ability to quickly address issues and develop solutions to minimize compliance risk and improve utility and facility reliability

  • Applied professional work experience which demonstrates knowledge of environmental issues, safety, and regulatory and code compliance (OSHA PSM, NFPA)

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Professional Designation : PE (Professional Engineer)

  • Experience as a Journeyman Electrician with 10 years’ experience

  • Experience with General Electric, Schneider, Siemens, and Pacs switchgear

  • Experience developing Job Plans, Preventative Maintenance and Predictive Maintenance Plans

  • Experience managing budgets

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in executing Capital Projects
