Battelle Memorial Institute Laboratory Technician in West Jefferson, Ohio

Battelle's Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) Business Line is currently seeking candidates for a full-time, permanent position as a Laboratory Technician . This position is located in West Jefferson, Ohio .


The Laboratory Technician responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Daily emptying and cleaning of decontamination waste buckets and upkeep of the workspace.

  • Daily (or as needed) laundering of men’s and women’s scrubs and lab coats.

  • Daily stocking of supplies (bleach, nitrile gloves, butyl gloves, blue paper, etc.)

  • Keeping track of and ordering lab supplies.

  • Meeting delivery truck drivers to receive large deliveries (bleach, drinking water, empty drums).

  • Daily distribution of packages from shipping/receiving bay to staff.

  • Weekly (or as needed) stocking of 10% NaOH drum and filling of 10% NaOH bottles.

  • Weekly (or as needed) emptying of solid and organic waste drums.

  • Weekly checks off all safety showers and eyewashes in the laboratories.

  • Monthly inspection of safety equipment (SCBAs, fire extinguishers, ladders, escape respirators, carts, radios, etc.)

  • Quarterly washing of butyl aprons.

  • Refilling SCBA air tanks at West Jeff fire station as needed.

  • Follow and adhere to written SOPs.

  • Work independently and complete routine tasks with minimal oversight.

  • Other duties as assigned.


  • High School Diploma or equivalent education

  • At least 1 year experience in a laboratory role

  • Good oral and written communication skills, teamwork, self-motivation, and attention to detail

  • Must be a US citizen

  • Ability to obtain/maintain certification in Chemical Personnel Reliability Program

  • Ability to obtain/maintain a DoD security clearance.

  • Must be willing to participate in periodic random drug screening.
