Job Summary:

Provide value-added engineering support of manufacturing processes within the facility. Responsibilities will include; performing manufacturing experiments, maintaining production equipment, maximizing efficiencies and yields, implementing Lean Manufacturing practices and making recommendations for improvements to assembly methods and work force utilization. Some knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the optics manufacturing field is preferable. Regularly interfaces with manufacturing engineers and production support groups and communicates about project status and the resolution of production issues.

Summary of Essential Job Duties:

  • Work with manufacturing and design engineers to proactively identify defects in the manufacturing process and determine root cause to permanently eliminate the issue.

  • Provide guidance to manufacturing personnel in the daily operation of all equipment in the various departments to maintain and increase workflow.

  • Communicate with manufacturing engineers and production management on product performance issues and monitor productivity.

  • Understand and apply all applicable engineering processes to support department objectives.

  • Contribute to the development of work instructions.

  • Maintain a clean and safe work department and report all unsafe conditions to supervisor.

  • Use Lean and Six Sigma tools to improve efficiency and demonstrate basic troubleshooting skills.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Knowledge of Good manufacturing Practices, ISO, Bills of Material & opto-mechanical principles.

  • Experience with Optical Assembly a plus.

  • Self-motivated, capable of working with little direction or supervision and have the ability to grasp complex procedures and contribute as an individual and as a team member.

  • Good manual dexterity and visual acuity.

  • Moderate to high computer skills. MS Excel software is required. Filemaker Pro a plus.

  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) methods a plus.

Requirements and Competencies:

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents. Ability to communicate effectively to team members and management.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts.

Experience/Certifications/Degrees Required:

  • Minimum of an A.S. degree in optics, mechanical engineering/technology with 2- 4 years of relevant industry or manufacturing experience.

  • Bachelors in Optics, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering a plus.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand: use hands to fingers, handle or feel: and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch: and talk and hear.

  • The job may involve prolong periods of sitting/standing.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. May involve prolonged periods of magnified inspection (eye strain)

  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.

  • The employee is frequently required to use the computer.

Work Environment:

  • May involve the use of oils and solvents.

  • Subject to some soilage and irritation from cleaning solutions. (Lab Coats provided)

  • Generally works in a clean environment and works to maintain the environment as such.

  • Safety Glasses are required

  • May require area specific safety training

  • This position works in a manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

  • The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne paper particles.

  • May work at different workstations as production needs require, or shifts from one station to another, during the production process.
