Job Summary:

The B-Shift Operations Supervisor will be directly responsible for coordinating all of the optical component manufacturing, coating, machine shop, assembly operations and production support for all of RPO’s B- Shift. The Operations supervisor will directly supervise all Production and will lead a series of manufacturing teams to optimize production processes, maximize yields and achieve 100% on-time delivery. They will also be required to use their technical skills in order to communicate with employee base and technical staff, in order to research and implement new technologies to reduce costs through innovation.

Summary of Essential Job Duties:

  • Be the supervisory point of contact for all B Shift employees.

  • Supervises manufacturing staff to produce optical products and components and monitors workflow.

  • Interface with department managers for shift requirements, overlap, and support.

  • Accomplishes results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; and initiating, coordinating and enforcing systems, policies and procedures.

  • Recruits, trains, and mentors new and existing employee base.

  • Completes production plans by scheduling and assigning personnel, establishing priorities, monitoring progress, revising schedules, resolving problems and reporting results of the processing flow on shift production summaries.

  • Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing production standards.

  • Ensures operation of equipment by calling for repairs and evaluating new equipment and techniques.

  • Creates and revises systems and procedures by analyzing operating practices, record-keeping systems, forms of control, personnel requirements and implementing change,

  • Maintains safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all control points, equipment and resources, and maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Requirements and Competencies:

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents. Ability to communicate effectively to team members and management.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts.

Educational Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, bachelor’s degree in optics, engineering or business preferred, or mix of education and experience in related field/environment.

  • 8+ years’ experience with leadership experience in a technical manufacturing environment required.

  • Experience with optical assembly, coating, machining, injection molding highly preferred.

Work Requirements:

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand: use hands to fingers, handle or feel: and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and talk and hear.

  • The job may involve prolong periods of sitting/standing.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. May involve prolonged periods of magnified inspection (eye strain)

  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.

  • The employee is frequently required to use the computer.

Work Environment:

  • May involve the use of oils and solvents.

  • Subject to some soilage and irritation from cleaning solutions. (Lab Coats provided)

  • Generally works in a clean environment and works to maintain the environment as such.

  • Safety Glasses are required

  • May require area specific safety training

  • This position works in a manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

  • The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne paper particles.

  • May work at different workstations as production needs require, or shifts from one station to another, during the production process.
