Music Teacher Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement music education curriculum for students on the autism spectrum
Teach music theory, vocal skills, and instrument playing techniques
Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet individual student needs and learning styles
Plan and organize performances and recitals to showcase students' musical abilities
Assess and track student progress, providing feedback and guidance for improvement
Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and participation
Collaborate with other teachers and staff to integrate music education into interdisciplinary projects and activities
Communicate regularly with parents/caretakers to provide updates on student progress and address any concerns
Additional duties as required
Requirements
Music Teacher Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or related field
Teaching certification or equivalent experience in music education
Experience working with children on the autism spectrum or other special needs populations
Proficiency in playing one or more musical instruments
Strong knowledge of music theory and ability to teach vocal and instrumental techniques
Patience, creativity, and a passion for working with students with special needs
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment
Flexible and adaptable teaching style to accommodate individual student needs
Location: West Hempstead, New York
Monday - Friday / 8:00am - 4:00pm
Occasional before and after school work hours at the discretion of the Administrative staff
School / Classroom setting
Candidates should be comfortable teaching online and in-person
Physical Requirements
Must be able to keep students safe from themselves and others and in some cases may need to implement CPI procedures.
Must be able to remove oneself from potentially harmful situations and in some cases be able to lift a child.
