GENERAL SUMMARY The Plant Engineer is responsible for capital project management, plant engineering, and operations & maintenance support. The Plant Engineer serves as the primary backup to the Contracts Administration for health, safety, and environmental compliance programs across the Long Island Fleet. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS ENGINEERING: * Manage capital improvement projects to ensure budgetary guidelines and contractual guarantees are met. This includes preparation of Request for Quotes (RFQs), bid evaluation, project management, and project implementation * Coordinates external contacts with engineering firms to discuss field changes and with manufacturer sales representatives, service personnel and vendors to discuss new or modifications to existing equipment, resolve problems and exchange information * Develop, communicate, and perform work practices and procedures to keep site drawings and documentation up to date * Analyze equipment failures, determine root causes, recommend recovery plans, and impose cost effective solutions to prevent reoccurrence * Assists in the investigation of plant problems, incidents, accidents, and unusual events, and provide analyses, recommendations, reports, and appropriate follow-up plans * Develop and administer contracts and work scope for external contractors to ensure maximum efficiency in the use of plant and contractor personnel * Under the guidance of the Plant Manager and Contracts Administrator, develops the experience and skills necessary to be the primary backup for execution of the Long Island health, safety, and environmental programs * Under the guidance of the Contracts Administrator, becomes the primary backup for preparation of monthly invoices to the utility for those Long Island sites billing under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) * Support the Long Island Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Managers in tracking forced outages, loss of generation and conducting root cause analysis on the cause of failure * Support the Long Island O&M Managers in preparing planned outage work scopes and schedules * Provide plant support to the JPower Engineering team relating to plant performance, data telemetry, plant improvements, etc. NAES SAFE Safety is a core value of NAES and as a condition of employment, all employees are expected to be mentally alert and work safely at all times. Effectiveness in carrying out this responsibility is part of the evaluation of each employee’s performance. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS The Plant Engineer reports to the Plant Manager. The Plant Engineer cooperates with the Operations and Maintenance Managers, the Compliance/Contracts Administrator and the Administrative Manager as needed in the daily operation of the plants. Maintains a positive relationship with NAES Corporate Engineering Support Services. The Plant Engineer will coordinate with O&M staffs on matters concerning environmental permits. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS Physical requirements include the possibility of standing on feet for extended periods of time, requiring stair and ladder climbing and lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts, with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required. Some travel may be involved to participate in Owner, User Group, or other offsite meetings. All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility. JOB QUALIFICATIONS We are seeking an individual who has a passion for excellence in plant project management, HSE compliance, and O&M programs. Your work history will demonstrate progressively increasing responsibilities with at least three years of directly related experience in a power plant environment. A Bachelor of Science Degree in an engineering discipline is preferred. In lieu of an engineering degree, candidates must have at least 5 years of operations and/or maintenance experience in power generation to be considered. Additional strengths needed in this role include: * A thorough, demonstrated understanding of power plant operations and maintenance activities * Familiarity with Federal and State Health, Safety, and Environmental programs applicable to the power generation industry * Excellent writing and analytical skills and an ability to present facts, conclusions and recommendations in written communications, both in formal and informal formats * Thoroughly familiar with Microsoft products including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Project * Familiarity with typical plant data historian, trending, and performance monitoring tools * CEMS/DAHS experience desired * Demonstrated experience and knowledge with piping and instrument schematics and process controls It is the practice of NAES to seek employees of the highest quality and to select the individuals on the basis of merit and competence, without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, military status or affiliation protected under USERRA, or any other basis of discrimination prohibited by applicable local, state and federal law. ### Travel Required Yes.
