Home Depot Associate Merchant Product Development in Weehawken, New Jersey

POSITION PURPOSE

This role will support The Company Store, the online leader of premium bedding, which is now part of Home Depot. You will be working on many exciting projects to improve the customer journey in a highly entrepreneurial environment.

This position will develop products to support targeted growth of The Company Store Brand and develop additional private label brands to grow the business.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Sources and develops appropriate product to support the assortment strategy

  • Creates specifications for products including, packaging, safety and environmental issues

  • Partners with design to team to develop and deliver successful products

  • Contributes to the product design process from concept to finished product

  • Support brand strategy via private label development

  • Identify and qualify international vendors to the HD standards

  • Partners to develops materials to sell the products developed, (e.g. packaging)

NATURE AND SCOPE

  • Reports to The Company Store head of Product Development

  • May manage team members directly or indirectly

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Environment:

  • Usually in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors causing moderate physical discomfort from such things as dust, fumes or odors

Travel:

Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time and may require international travel

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be eighteen years of age or older.

Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Education Required:

The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Years of Relevant Work Experience: 5 years

Physical Requirements:

Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10 - 15 years Home Textile experience working for suppliers who produced multi-level merchandise for retailers

  • Understanding of current market place and competitive assortments

  • Experience with visual merchandising to execute given seasonal assortment plans

  • Extensive experience with creative stages of development such as lab dip approvals /color matching, assessment of products because of initial sampling, and effective in directing suppliers to meet aesthetic goals as specified by the design packages sent in country.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

  • Office Productivity Software: Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Must be technology savvy and show demonstrated ability to learn new processes and technologies.

  • Industry Knowledge: Strong knowledge of home textiles fabrics, product specifications and finished product designed for the home area. Strong knowledge of global sourcing and global home textile suppliers
