Byrne Dairy & Deli Category Manager in Weedsport, New York

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Category Manager is responsible for managing specific categories within Byrne Dairy & Deli convenience stores such as: grocery, cigarettes, tobacco and various DSD categories. They have the full scope of responsibility for product pricing and mix, purchasing inventory, gross margin performance, and merchandising of product. The Category Manager is responsible for searching out new, competitive opportunities within the assigned categories and driving the business to ensure an industry leading position for Sonbyrne Sales and Byrne Dairy & Deli.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

  • Develop and execute category plans that are aligned with and support corporate goals and strategies. Use consumer research to ensure that the Voice of the Customer is included in all plans. Ensure annual category planning process drives continuous improvement.

  • Define the category role, strategies, tactics, and opportunities required to micro market space and price, plan assortment and promotions, increase market share, contribute to category growth, and meet and anticipate the current and future consumer demands. Ensure Category Planning Teams are aligned with category plans, pricing/promotional strategies, and assortment decisions.

  • Lead project-planning cycle to ensure the completion of key category initiatives. Develop, monitor and re-forecast financial plans and budgets that support the corporate financial plan. Develop the category s target or hurdle rates for quantitative / qualitative measures of performance.

  • Work with Marketing Research team & Strategic Vendor Partners to conduct consumer research needed to meet category objectives. Conduct competitive market research required to maximize, monitor, evaluate and benchmark the progress of the category business plans and financial performance.

  • Work with the Space Planning and the other Category Teams to optimize space allocations and category performance.

  • Have full P&L responsibility for attaining budgeted sales and gross profit margin.

  • Initiating and executing marketing plans for weekly, season and annual marketing programs

  • Optimizing SKU mix, sales, and gross margin and maintaining positive vendor relationships

REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS Degree in Business or Marketing

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in category management, brand marketing, product development, or purchasing—preferred, but not required.

  • Retail experience a plus

  • Experience with P&L management a plus

  • Proven leadership capabilities and creative thinking skills

  • Project management experience with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Estimated Annual Salary: $60,000-$70,000
