EFIN Engineer, Electrical - Plant Vogtle Units 3&4 (Waynesboro, GA)

Southern Nuclear Operating Company's Plant Vogtle 3&4 Site Engineering organization is seeking a high performing Electrical Engineer with an analytical mindset and strong technical and leadership skills to support operation of the next generation nuclear power station. This position will be located at Southern Nuclear Company's Plant Vogtle in Waynesboro, Georgia.

Job Summary

This position is assigned to the Site Design Engineering organization in the EFIN (Engineering Fix-It-Now) group and is part of the Engineering organization at the Vogtle 3&4 site. This position will provide electrical engineering support for troubleshooting and design changes primarily for the station’s electrical equipment.

Southern Nuclear, a subsidiary of Southern Company, manages and operates eight nuclear power electric generating plants that provide approximately 20 percent of the electricity used in Alabama and Georgia. Southern Nuclear is leading the nuclear renaissance by operating the first new U.S. nuclear reactors in more than 25 years. The two newly-commissioned Westinghouse AP1000 reactors currently operating at Plant Vogtle make the facility the largest in the U.S. with four reactors on one site. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Obtain Design qualifications and support development and implementation of design changes for Vogtle 3&4 and designs interfacing with the operating units Vogtle 1&2

  • Obtain emergency response organization qualifications and serve on a duty team rotation

  • Develop and maintain technical knowledge regarding AP1000 electrical systems and equipment design - Support development, implementation, and maintenance of programs, processes, and procedures as they relate to electrical systems

  • Participate in industry groups (EPRI, IEEE, NEI, etc.) supporting electrical systems

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university

  • EIT/FE or Professional Engineer Registration is a plus

Job Requirements:

  • Though there will be opportunities for remote work, must be willing and able to work at the site and reside close enough to site to respond within 90 minutes

  • Commercial nuclear power plant experience in electrical design, modifications, and/or systems engineering is plus

  • Knowledge and understanding commercial nuclear power plant regulations, codes, and standards is a plus

  • 3 years engineering experience in electrical design is desired

  • 3 years nuclear power plant related engineering experience is desired

  • Previous design change experience is desired

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Common Design Process knowledge highly desired

  • Knowledge of AP1000 highly desired

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills

  • Proven organizational skills with ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously

  • Must convey a clear vision of the future and make principled, data-based practical decisions that take critical factors into account

  • Capable of working efficiently and effectively across organizations

  • An ability to solve problems and make sound engineering decisions, based on experience and appropriate industry practices, to make timely decisions which might impact plant safety and reliability

  • Effectively present technical positions to all levels of management and to external organizations

  • Working knowledge of common computer tools, including Microsoft Office Word and Excel

Other Requirements:

  • The successful candidate must meet background screening and NRC Fitness for Duty requirements

  • Must satisfactorily complete the 5-week Systems Engineering training program

  • The successful candidate must be willing to travel to other plants within the fleet for mentoring during qualification process

  • Flexible member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO)

  • Other duties as assigned
