Successful employment will be to fill the position of Safety Point of Contact with other related job duties. This position will assist the management of the Section with providing leadership and guidance to all employees concerning safety related items. Performs and coordinates advanced transportation engineering operations or maintenance support work such as construction and/or complex maintenance contract inspection; light and heavy equipment operation; roadway maintenance; traffic control; helping the public during emergency situations; and training other employees. May serve as a lead worker. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Essential Duties:General Engineering Tech I:Administers construction and/or bridge inspection record-keeping activities in a District Area Office.Reviews and coordinates with area engineers on monthly and final estimates, field changes, supplemental agreements, extra work orders and revised estimates of quantities.Conducts tests of highway construction materials, makes calculations, and records results. Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems.Inspects traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices, safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.May train other employeesOperates light and heavy equipment; performs preventive maintenance and repairs on equipment; performs roadway maintenance.Oversees complex maintenance and spot improvement contracts.Reviews and assists in the development of traffic control plans, coordinates with law enforcement agencies, monitors lane closures at construction sites, documents changes in the traffic control setup and coordinates with the Public Information Officer.Sands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public and performs other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.General Engineering Tech II:Assists Area Engineer in planning and coordinating Area Office operations.Oversees complex maintenance and spot improvement contracts and total maintenance, performance based, and/or bundled bid contracts.Serves as project leader responsible for construction inspection activities for large and/or complex constructionprojects or for multiple district construction projects.Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems.Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards.Inspects complex maintenance and construction-related work to include hot mix overlay to ensure compliance with safety, laws and regulations, contract specifications and departmental procedures.Inspects traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices, safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.May train other employeesOperates light and heavy equipment; performs preventive maintenance and repairs on equipment; performs roadway maintenance.Reviews/assists in the development of traffic control plans, coordinates with law enforcement agencies, monitors lane closures at construction sites, documents changes in traffic control setup and coordinates with the Public Information Officer.Sands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public and performs other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
