THE ROLE:

As developer on the BI team, you will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of data-driven reports and dashboards using Power BI, enabling organizations to make informed, data-driven decisions. A Power BI developer plays a critical part in the business intelligence (BI) team by transforming raw data into actionable insights that stakeholders can easily interpret.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, design, and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI.

  • Connect to and integrate various data sources, including Databricks and Data Sphere, to optimize data processing and reporting pipelines.

  • Connect to various data sources, including databases, cloud services, and APIs.

  • Perform data transformation and cleansing to ensure data accuracy and consistency.

  • Build and maintain data models to support report and dashboard development.

  • Optimize data models for performance and scalability.

  • Use Power Query and DAX for data manipulation and modeling.

  • Collaborate with data engineers and architects to ensure efficient data sourcing, transformation, and visualization.

  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications and provide actionable insights based on data analysis.

  • Ensure optimal performance and scalability of dashboards through testing and tuning of data models and reports.

  • Ensure that dashboards and reports perform efficiently, even with large datasets.

  • Test dashboards and reports to ensure they meet business requirements and are free of errors.

  • Validate data accuracy and consistency in reports.

  • Document the development process, data models, and report configurations.

  • Create user guides and training materials to support end-users.

  • Monitor and optimize report performance to ensure quick load times and responsiveness.

  • Stay updated with the latest trends and best practices in Power BI.

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for reporting tools and data connections.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems with reports, data connections, and dashboards.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT and business stakeholders, to understand reporting needs and deliver impactful solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, data science, or a related field.

  • 3+ years of experience with Power BI in a professional environment.

  • Strong expertise in connecting to and working with Databricks and Data Sphere.

  • Proficient in SQL, DAX, and data modeling techniques.

  • Experience working with large datasets and optimizing queries for performance.

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud is a plus.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Technical Knowledge:

  • Building and customizing dashboards and reports using Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.

  • Expertise in DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) for advanced calculations and data manipulation.

  • Power Query for ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) tasks and data preparation.

  • Publishing and sharing reports securely on Power BI Service, setting up workspaces, and managing user access.

  • Knowledge of set analysis and aggregations for data calculations.

  • Power Query for data transformation.

  • Connecting to platforms like Azure, SQL Server, Databricks, and other databases.

  • Ability to design and maintain robust data models (star schema, snowflake schema, etc.) in Power BI.

  • Understanding of relational databases, data lakes, and data warehouse architectures (e.g., dimensional modeling).

  • Familiarity with OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) cubes and their role in BI reporting.

  • Expertise in creating calculated fields, measures, hierarchies, and relationships between tables to optimize performance.

  • Automating ETL workflows and data pipelines using tools like Power Automate, Python scripts, or external tools.

  • Experience with version control systems like Git for tracking changes to dashboards, reports, and data models.

  • Exposure to other BI tools like MicroStrategy, SAP BusinessObjects, or Looker can be advantageous, providing flexibility and a broader understanding of BI ecosystems.

Salary range:

$71,000.00 - $113,500.00
