Elementary Interventionist / Literacy Coach

The Interventionist/Literacy Coaching position is responsible for the students and their progress toward the achievement of academic goals and supporting staff development. The Interventionist/Literacy Coach is responsible for helping identify students eligible for intervention services, communicate with parents regularly, provide intervention instruction, monitoring and assessing student progress, and following up with students after they progress out of intervention support.

The Interventionist/Literacy Coach is a critical lever in improving student achievement. The role of the Interventionist/Literacy Coach is to not only work with students but to also build teacher capacity and their understanding of instructional practices as related to teacher expectations, standards and data driven instruction. An Interventionist/Literacy Coach is a learner who models continuous improvement, lifelong learning, and goes above and beyond to ensure student success.

Interventionist/Literacy Coaches will promote reflection, provide guidance and structure where needed, and focus on strengths, collaboration and common issues of concern. They are responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching and providing feedback to teachers. The Interventionist/Literacy Coach will demonstrate and model a passion for education reform and leadership. This is NOT a supervisory position and DOES NOT include evaluation of colleagues.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ROLES:

  • Work cooperatively with building administration, school staff and all teachers to implement our district's comprehensive intervention program in language arts and mathematics.
  • Provide quality intervention services to all students to improve student achievement results and close the achievement gaps.
  • Monitor the effectiveness and pacing of instruction relative to class and individual student proficiency and progress.
  • Cooperate with district administration, the building principal, and other school specialists to assess intervention program effectiveness, evaluate student proficiency, and establish school level improvement plans.
  • Plan and implement sequential learning experiences for students using a variety of researched based strategies.
  • Monitor the pacing of intervention instruction and budget time efficiently by providing clear directions, outlining expectations and effectively bringing closure to the instructional period.
  • Maintain records indicating student progress in achieving the objectives and progress monitor students regularly.
  • Model lessons in classrooms.
  • Support the instructional development of all teachers in understanding the school curriculum and varied assessments, the framework for teaching, and data analysis.
  • Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches.
  • Provide direction and coordination for how the curriculum is taught consistent with district initiatives and recognized best instructional practices.
  • Create an articulated schedule with building administration.
  • Assist teachers in understanding district and school mission and core values.
  • Provide technical support to collaborative teams within buildings.
  • Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources.
  • Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction on all levels.
  • Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students.
  • Support teachers by sharing multiple instructional strategies and processes with teachers during planning times.
  • Informally observe (non-evaluative) lessons and provide feedback f r a teachers professional growth and students success.
  • Develop staff members knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional development targeted topics and designs.
  • Develop coaching plans / co-teaching plans for teachers to ensure student improvement.
  • Research best practices in the classroom to motivate adult learners to improve professional practice.
  • Contribute to the development systems and structures to improve teacher practice within schools.
  • Provide job-embedded informal professional learning beyond the coaching responsibility.
  • Attend professional develop training sessions.

ASSESSMENT RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Input and benchmark students in AimsWeb Plus and other district assessment tools when they enter the district.
  • Input and support staff with benchmarking students in the district on AimsWeb Plus and other district assessment tools in the fall, winter and spring benchmark periods.
  • Set teachers up with their weekly progress monitoring of students in tier 2 and 3 using appropriate data trackers in order to maintain fidelity checks.
  • Collect and analyze data prior to PLC meetings for trends and specific skills sets to be taught within the tiered instructional groups.

MCKENZIE COUNTY INTERVENTIONIST/LITERACY COACH QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified in any specific teaching area.
  • Minimum 5 years experience teaching, with a record of successfully impacting student achievement and working successfully with students who have the greatest needs.
  • Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, including the ability to create and nurture a professional community of adult learners.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills, including giving and receiving constructive feedback.
  • Proven ability in using student-level data to guide instructional decisions.
  • Demonstrated teacher leadership.
  • Strong pedagogical knowledge and content expertise.
  • Demonstrated expertise in oral and written communication.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Models continual improvement, demonstrates lifelong learning, and applies new learning to help all students achieve.
  • Demonstrates evidence of professional growth, including leadership and participation in a wide range of significant professional development activities.

Equipment All teachers are equipped with an Apple MacBook Air laptop and iPad.

Salary: $50,000 - $84,500
