Job Summary

The Director of Dining Operations at Colby College is responsible for the success of the cafés, maintaining high sanitation and food quality standards. This role handles all Café Managers and Supervisors, ensuring training and compliance with Bon Appétit and client standards. The director conducts monthly GE4 inspections, supervises safety and sanitation, and makes critical operational decisions following health regulations and client expectations.

Objectives:

  • Perform quality work independently and collaboratively.

  • Maintain professional interactions with colleagues, customers, and suppliers.

  • Work effectively within a team and handle communications with other employees and organizations.

Food Programs:

  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef to develop high-quality offerings.

  • Ensure compliance with Bon Appétit food standards.

  • Maintain creative and timely food presentations.

Staff Supervision and Development:

  • Manage hiring, training, and supervision of staff.

  • Promote internal development and adhere to uniform policies.

  • Resolve staff disagreements and performance issues promptly.

Financial Management:

  • Adhere to Bon Appétit’s financial guidelines.

  • Conduct payroll audits and handle operational budgets.

  • Ensure up-to-date and accurate critical metrics.

Safety and Sanitation:

  • Align with all health and safety regulations.

  • Conduct safety training and inspections.

  • Manage comprehensive sanitation protocols.

Customer Service and Client Relations:

  • Ensure guest satisfaction and handle complaints professionally.

  • Maintain regular communication with management and clients.

Retail and IT Management:

  • Coordinate café operations, including decor and menu pricing.

  • Lead point of sale systems and technology upgrades.

Overall Management:

  • Uphold Bon Appétit’s philosophy and culture.

  • Support general management with equipment maintenance and operational standards.

  • Ensure compliance with GE4 certification requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hotel/Restaurant Management preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in food and beverage operations.

  • Strong digital literacy and culinary knowledge.

  • Effective communication and leadership skills.

Physical and Language Skills:

  • Ability to perform job functions with accommodation if vital.

  • Ability to communicate clearly in English and manage small group presentations.
